WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio (AP) A man whose heart stopped beating for 45 minutes credits his faith for being alive and says stunned doctors who declared him dead aren't sure what happened.
The body of diesel mechanic Tony Yahle was being prepared by nurses to be seen by his family Aug. 5 when he began to show signs of life, doctors said. He fully awakened at the hospital five days later.
Yahle, a 37-year-old West Carrollton resident, has been a topic of conversation since, said cardiologist Dr. Raja Nazir.

(522 posts)As a retired ER nurse, I want to know what was happening for the 45 minutes before his heart stopped. What was his pre-death diagnosis? Did they try to revive him? What was the monitor showing...flat line?...fine V-fib?
Gonna be interesting.
You can live for five minutes w/o breathing.
You can live five days w/o drinking water.
You can live five weeks w/o eating.
Of course, these are basic rules of thumb and are dependent on the person's health etc.
But it is not credible to claim that some dude lived 45 minutes w/o a heart beat unless something else was keeping him alive. This story sounds like a journalism fail to me, yet another "It's a MIRACLE!!" Story which never hold up because they always conveniently leave some important facts out of the narrative.
In other words... Meh!
