They really just need an enemy, don't they?

Much is made of the fact that the extreme rightie teabilly of today won't listen to facts or data, accepts things from their own "side" that they decry on "ours", and generally is self-contradictory and hypocritical.

What this tells me is that it isn't about any cogent philosophy for them.

It's just about being generally angry with their lot in life, and needing an "enemy" at whom to direct their anger.

Now, since your average rightie isn't very comfortable with complex thought, he/she will shy away from complicated socio-economic analysis which boils things down to economic inequality and a 1% vs. 99% scenario.

So, instead, they build overly simplistic narratives which blame groups of "others".

I mean it isn't about whether Obama was born in the US or not. It's about him being "other", and therefore "not a REAL American". Ted Cruz, on the other hand, was actually born outside the US, but is "white enough" (or toes the party line, if you don't want to make this about race).

Likewise, supporting restrictive voter ID measures isn't about voter fraud (which doesn't exist). It's much more about keeping "the wrong people" from voting. People who don't vote with you. People whom you have already scapegoated as being the cause of all the ills in your life.

The righties don't have Hitler, Stalin or even Saddam to frighten and anger them anymore. So they single out their own fellow countrymen and women. Not that surprising. But terribly sad.

It seems to be the favorite of everyone who's against the Democratic Party and/or Obama.
