McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign fined $80,000

Source: Arizona Republic

The Federal Election Commission has fined John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign committees $80,000 for accepting campaign contributions that exceeded federal limits.

The campaign accepted $377,657 in contributions that exceeded the limits of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, the commission said. That law restricts contributions from individual donors to no more than $2,300 each for the primary and general elections.

... In addition, the campaign’s compliance fund did not file the required 48-hour disclosure notices for 169 contributions totaling nearly $241,000 received before the general election, the commission said. The notices must be filed for contributions of $1,000 or more received during a specified period before the election.
