Texas man allegedly brandishes pellet gun, knives when told he can't pump own gas on Oregon coast

By Everton Bailey Jr.

A Texas man is accused of firing a pellet gun and brandishing knives after being told he couldn't pump his own gas on the Oregon coast Friday morning.

Leroy John Davis, 32, got into an argument over service with a male gas attendant at Bill's Chevron at 580 N.W. Hemlock St. in Waldport and then left, said Sgt. Adam Shanks, a Lincoln County Sheriff's spokesman. Davis soon returned with an air-powered pellet gun, allegedly fired at the attendant and fled again.

The attendant was not hit by the plastic pellets, Shanks said.

Davis returned again, was told to leave by the attendant, but instead pulled out two knives and yelled at the attendant, Shanks said. Davis left again when the attendant told him the sheriff's office had been called.

Deputies stopped Davis in his vehicle in Seal Rock and arrested him, Shanks said. Marijuana hashish and smoking materials were found during a vehicle search.

Oregon and New Jersey gas stations have attendents and customers cannot operate the pumps.

The write of this story is also an idiot. If the pellets were plastic, then the 'gun' in this instance would be accurately described as an Airsoft gun, and not a pellet gun. When people read 'pellet gun' they think of a .177 caliber (it also shoots BBs) air rifle, also known as a pellet gun.

waaaay back in the early 1980s. The public cannot pump their own gas, partly due to all the drive-offs during the late 1970s gas crisis and partly due to people walking off while pumps running and ordinances about spills/pollution. There were probably other reasons that I don't recall hearing about but it's been the law in the state for decades now.

I remember when most gas stations had "full service" at their pumps... the attendants washed you windows, checked your oil upon request, tires and wiper blades. they even wiped of your headlights (and gas was about 20 cents/gallon).

it says Jersey girls do not pump gas. I wear it traveling so people will have pity for me at the pump.

bit less aggressive and confrontational? and, don't know about the rest of you, but I appreciate finding stations where the attendants pump your gas. I am old enough to remember when said attendants pumped your gas, washed your windows, and, often, checked your oil (oh, and you got green stamps or other promotional things)
