Toddler recovering from pit bull mauling gets shot in the head

The 3-year-old boy is in critical but stable condition at Cornell Medical Center after being shot inside his second floor apartment in Flatbush-Ditmas Park section of Brooklyn, reported WABC. 911 received a call from the apartment on E. 21st St. at 3:30 a.m., WABC said.

The toddler, a babysitter and a man were inside the apartment at 520 E. 21st St. in Flatbush when shots rang out at around 3 a.m., authorities told NBC New York.

Neighbors identified the child as Terrell, and told the New York Post that the two adults apparently panicked after the incident, sources said, leaving the blood-spattered crib. The child’s mother was not home at the time, the Post reported. The child wore a colostomy bag from a pit bull mauling several months ago, the Post reported.

“(His mother) had a pit bull and the dog attacked the baby,” neighbor Jay Nichols, 36, told the Post. “The dog bit him in the side. He had to wear a colostomy bag…He’s three years old. He shouldn’t have to live in these kind of conditions.”

And who was packing heat? The babysitter, or the "man?"

This is just a horrible, horrible story, and the one who suffers? The poor little kid. He was born into hell.

'I did not shoot anybody': Suspect denies shooting 3-year-old Brooklyn boy in head

A 3-year-old Brooklyn boy fought for his life Saturday after a neighbor shot him in the head just months after he suffered horrific injuries when a pit bull belonging to his mother’s boyfriend bit him, cops and outraged neighbors said.

The bullet pierced little Tharell Edward’s skull inside his mom’s Flatbush apartment about 3:30 a.m., cops said. Tharell was inside the second-floor apartment at E. 21st St. with his mother’s female roommate and 22-year-old neighbor Akeem Bernard when the shot rang out.

Bernard was charged late Saturday with felony assault, criminal possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child and tampering with evidence.

“My mother had just left and the girl got up to use the bathroom,” Tharell’s sister Thanielle Edward, 20, said. “She heard a gunshot and the guy was trying to act like he didn’t know what happened.” Blood was spattered across the crib and much of the apartment as the two adults apparently panicked and ran around the flat with the tot after he was struck, sources said.

Disgusted neighbors said Tharell’s short life has been a disturbingly rough one. “She’s very irresponsible, very neglectful,” said neighbor Tony Reid of the boy’s mother. “She had a dog that bit the baby and when the baby came back from the hospital the child fell down the staircase that week. Twice that week.”

Born two months premature, the boy was often left home while his mother stayed with a boyfriend, according to the neighbors.

Despite the apparent neglect, Nichols said the resilient Tharell had a smile on his face during their last encounter a couple of weeks ago. “He looked happy,” the neighbor recalled. “Like he was just getting over the dog bite. Now this. . . . I’m p----d off. He’s just a little kid!”

“After that incident they should have taken him away,” family friend Jacinth Fleming said of the boy’s run-in with the pit bull. “He’s not safe. He (the baby) has overcome a lot. Everybody’s been saying her ass needs to be punished.”

came from inside the apartment?

Law enforcement sources said the man who was in the apartment was taken into custody for questioning, although it is unclear what the man's relationship is to the boy or the babysitter. No one has been charged in connection with the shooting.

8. At the very least, one would think CPS should remove the child from the mother.
