"You mean, it comes from a world of lizards?"
"No," said Ford, who by this time was a little more rational and coherent than he had been, having finally had the coffee forced down him, "nothing so simple. Nothing anything like to straightforward. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford. "It is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them," said Ford. "They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates to the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards?"
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard," said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in."

(25,592 posts)Either that or play with them for a bit. Some are not as smart as they think they are. They come across as condescending to Liberals/Progressives and it shows. (Why are they allow to stay on a non-Right wing site in the first place?)
They use several known scripts to 'get to someone'. The most used is "misinterpreting" what was posted, with some off the wall, Black/white, either/or, made up fiction, as if those were the only two choices or one extreme must somehow follow the other. (It must be hell in their binary world, trying to make sense of things on a 'Liberal' web site.)
Sometime it is fun to string them along by quoting some of their own conflicting posts back to them. The 'smarter' ones can sometimes actually be easier to play with, as they can't defend against their own posts. Some just deny that was what they posted.
I learned during the META Wars not to let them get to me. Also, I stay out of the the 3 most contentious places around here and avoid their main mono-issue when it shows up in General Discussion or wherever. They are just daring anyone to disagree with them to fuel their outrage anyway. I noticed that one of the more high profile, in-your-face outragers came back after a vacation from DU this morning.

sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)at this point. Maybe a few years ago people didn't know what had gone wrong our Party, but they sure know now. And that is a good thing.
Too bad we don't have a George McGovern right now. I can't think of anyone in the Party who would make a better President and after all we've learned over the past decade, he would be such a refreshing 'change'.
A real War Hero, not a phony like Bush. I wasn't there when he ran, but I would give anything to have a man like that to vote for right now. Decent, honest, strong, in the real sense of the word.
It's funny, he never 'used' his military record as far as I know, seems those WW11 vets didn't feel the need to do so.
I find your comment offensive the same way I found Tweetie's several years ago when I lost total respect for him and never watched him again.
It was after the staged 'Mission Accomplished' ridiculousness and Tweetie was drooling over Bush's 'codpiece', the 'way he strutted across the deck', 'a real man', 'women LOVE this kind of President.' He talked about having a 'tingle in my leg'. ugh it was sickening.
And then he proved to me forever what a stupid, moronic idiot he is when he went on to say:
'Can you imagine a Democrat being able to look like this, a hero? I mean, George McGovern eg?
Really, so a cowardly moron who did everything he could to get out of fighting in a war he says he 'isn't sure whether he supported it or not' and went AWOL from Texas to Tweetie is a 'hero', while he couldn't imagine a REAL WAR hero 'looking like that'?
Obviously he had no idea of McGovern's War Record. And he was right, I could never imagine a real hero like McGovern, EVER looking like the fool Bush looked like when he chose to pose in his cod piece rather than remove it as a real war pilot would have done.
I could only wish for someone like McGovern.. Otoh, It would be an insult to McGovern to even ask him to apply for a job that has sunk so low that the likes of Bush or Reagan were 'qualified' for it.
We get the Government we deserve, so you may be right. We don't deserve a Democrat like McGovern. Not until WE evolve as a people.

Being the President requires becoming the President, so any third-wayer would be better than him.
I don't know anyone, any Democrat, who doesn't know the term 'the Third Way'
You're also politically tuned-in and keep up with current events. Do you go to party meetings much? Do you do knock and drags at election times? Even at the party meetings saying things like "third way" or "neoliberal" gets blank stares. At a knock and drag I'm lucky if the voter remembers the candidate's name.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)war mongering, Wall St supporters, anti SS morons were, but information travels fast these days, especially among young people. Now I know more than I wanted to know about them, who they are, how they infiltrated the party.
A Third Wayer would be no better than a Republican. They ARE Republicans except for pretending to care about a few 'left' issues, which they really could not care less about.
If a Third Wayer runs, we will be choosing between two Republicans.
George McGovern would have been a great president. But he is not an option, sadly.
I will not support a Third Way Candidate. If that happens I will focus on Congress so that it we can get enough Real Democrats to make sure no matter who occupies the WH, it won't matter. Congress is where the power should be. THAT is where the focus should be now.

So your claim is that nominating candidates like McGovern and Mondale (who were both defeated by dirty tricks, not on their liberal platforms) demonstrates you either don't know what sine qua non means, or are clueless about who and what the turd way are. Oh and considering that they were recently founded from the remnants after the DLC broke up they didn't have jack to do with either of those elections.

(62,325 posts)tactic of refusing to do that and resort to personal attacks is far too old and transparent to be taken seriously.
I looked back to see if I had to resort to insults to make my point, and no, I merely stated my opinion. You otoh seem far too sensitive and angry when someone points out that no Liberal Democrat would ever support, eg, the Privatization of SS.
Anyone who has the Privatization of SS on their policy agenda list is NOT a Liberal Democrat.

(32,139 posts)The canard about traditional Democrats' being out of the mainstream?
How absurd.
Every single poll this year showed that the electorate was far more on the page of traditional Democrats than the corporate candidates we were offered. Across party lines, voters favored protecting SS and Medicare and curbing military spending.
And the proof of the lie is that candidates pivot LEFTWARD every single election season to win voters. They lie and say that they will support a public option, or protect Social Security, because they know that is what voters want to hear. But as soon as the election is over, it's back to the business of the one percent.
That is what happens when corporations buy elections. And absurd posts like the one you just made are what happens when corporations buy the media and patrol the internet.
You guys desperately need new propaganda writers. And it's adorable the way you come into threads and talk to each other, trying to make it look like there are more of you than there actually are.
