Interesting three-axis social attitudes test after Eysenck's inventory

http://slackhalla.org/~demise/test/socialattitude.php

I think this maybe more useful than the "left/right vs. libertarian/authoritarian" model that's making the rounds yet again.

Mine:

Political Values

Radicalism 85.75
Socialism 37.5
Tenderness 50

These scores indicate that you are a progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a university professor. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a pragmatic attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear capitalist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a political centrist.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, an egalitarian with few strong opinions.

This concludes our analysis; we hope you found your results accurate, useful, and interesting.

Eysenck died in 1997, and constructed most of his questionnaires in the 70s. This one looks as though it's been updated slightly but not entirely.

Men wearing long hair was a sign of rebellion against old-fashioned conventions in the 60s and 70s. Fox hunting was, and still is, an area of disagreement between the British right and left: it was banned by the last Labour government, and some Tories especially from rural areas are strongly against this ban!

I agree with socialism and I think communism is a beautiful concept that works on a small scale. Just have to figure out how to make it work on a large scale.

The feelings questions bothered me. Sure, if people felt like i do then this world would be great if people made decisions on emotion. But half this country either hates or has no feelings so those folks sure as hell shouldn't make decisions like that.

Unlike many other political tests found on the Internet which base themselves on untested (and usually ideologically motivated) ideas, this inventory is adapted from Hans Eysenck's own political inventory which was developed after extensive empirical investigations in the 20th Century.

How can one be a 'devoted egalitarian' with a 'socialist' attitude to economics and at the same time a 'political centrist'? Possibly this reflects the time of original construction of the test during the 'postwar consensus' in the UK. I am certainly no 'centrist' by any current standards! (Also not an animal rights activist, though I do consider fox-hunting to be barbaric.)

but I agree that the results need to be taken with caution. A questionnaire based originally on 1970s Britain and on the views of a right-winger (and to some extent the academic version of a troll - he liked to create controversy for its own sake) should not be accepted uncritically.

'Tender-mindedness' also seems to have an idiosyncratic meaning, i.e. basing ones decisions on feelings and emotions, whereas I would think of it as meaning a preference for compassionate to harsh policies!

Socialism 68.75
Tenderness 56.25

These scores indicate that you are a progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a university professor. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a pragmatic attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as left-wing.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, an idealist with several strong opinions.

This concludes our analysis; we hope you found your results accurate, useful, and interesting.

Tenderness 50

I can't believe tenderness wasn't higher. I mean, sure, I think bending and twisting human DNA like a protein rubix cube is a good idea, but who doesn't want a little splicing if it gives us a race of super intelligent rattlesnake people?!
