Sure, the Republicans are self-destructing.....

... but there is an under-challenged wave of ALEC voter suppression going on in many states. And it worries me. Keeps me up at night.

Perhaps the DOJ will do something about these laws before November?

If not, it seems to me that these laws are all counter-acted by Democrats helping their targeted fellow Democrats to be registered to vote early - with enough time to leap the new hurdles.

Perhaps the Democratic Party could dedicate itself to this early registration strategy now and not wait for theoretical DOJ challenges to these laws. I can't help but think that it's too late for those challenges already.

Should GOTV become GOTR (Get Out The Registrations) for 2012?

I'm sure the DNC is aware of the situation. I would hope that they (and the Obama campaign) are doing something to counteract these laws. I think that DOJ has gone after some voter id laws already in some states if I'm not mistaken. Our challenge this year is not only GOTV but also making sure that when people go to the polls, they are ABLE to vote as well. I personally think that our electoral system is in need of some major reforms, particularly when it comes to ensuring voter participation and the right of every citizen of eligible age to cast their vote.
