Police in Virginia Beach arrested an 18-year-old man yesterday and charged him with two misdemeanor counts of brandishing a firearm after he allegedly pointed his gun at elementary school students.
Joshua P. Dalton was in a blue pickup truck at the time of the incident, and was reportedly stopped behind a Pembroke Elementary school bus that was unloading children. Two students returned to the bus and informed the driver that Dalton had pulled a gun out and was aiming it at the bus.
The bus driver brought the children back to the school and alerted the authorities.
According to police, Dalton was upset about disparaging remarks the students made concerning a Confederate flag on his truck.
He was booked into jail and later released on bond. A female passenger in Dalton's truck was not arrested.

What an asshole, and it's unfortunate that these are only misdemeanor charges. Seems like the sort of behavior that ought to fall in the "you lose your firearm access for a very long time" category...

(3,128 posts)not the school bus? The guy pointed the gun at the kids. Personally, although I am for gun control--very tight gun control (see the UK)--a bat or a knife would ahve also scared the kids but, as someone pointed out, they would not be able to outrun a bullet.

(68,644 posts)I guess when there isn't a shocking news story in a given week somebody drags up one from the past and presents it as "news".
The story says "yesterday". It wasn't yesterday.
I know you didn't realize it was old news.
I think you've been had, madinmaryland.

(64,931 posts)Nothing wrong with dragging up something from the past that did happen, since I could not recall it being discussed here, before.

(68,644 posts)You could blame the source, but the source didn't post it on DU.
You've got to know that many or most readers will think it happened yesterday.
Not the end of the world, it's just not very accurate.
Like I said, I believe you only just came across it and didn't realize, it is on a few sites and facebook, after all.

(39,665 posts)You need a more recent example of someone with a gun being a jackass in order to justify talking about it?
Here, this one's even a concealed permit holder (not mentioned that he held a permit, but since it's PA and there were no gun charges, he had to have one). Enjoy!
A DuBois man will stand trial for allegedly pulling a gun on a driver and his children in DuBois July 11.
Scott V. Moldenhauer, 43, 12 Murtland Ave., DuBois, is charged with three counts of assault, making terroristic threats, three counts of recklessly endangering another person, four counts of disorderly conduct and four counts of harassment.
After a preliminary hearing Friday, District Judge Patrick Ford ruled that sufficient evidence exists to send the charges to the Clearfield County Court of Common Pleas for further disposition. Additional charges of terroristic threats, harassment and disorderly conduct were dismissed. He is free on $10,000, unsecured bail.
The first witness was the driver, Timothy Runyon, 38, DuBois, who was driving with his two children when he made a turn onto Spring Avenue from Main Street.
It is a narrow street, he said, and when he saw another car coming up the street, he said the driver threw his arms up in the air. He backed up to let him pass. As the car approached, the driver, identified as Moldenhauer, rolled down his window. Runyon did also and the two exchanged words before Moldenhauer pulled a gun and pointed it right at me, then asked do you have a problem now?

However, Robb did in fact hijack the thread with his attempt at a divisive personal insult here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=3538842
It was in reply to my bringing to your attention the date of the event, a reply that is not a derailment but a clarification. IMO it's not OK to post old news as if it happened yesterday.
I've been kind to you, I was just pointing out the date and I am sure it was an oversight.
As to the topic, yes douchebags with guns, really stupid things that they do, absolutely, I agree. Last year, this year, really stupid all around.

(331 posts)I have no issue with pointing out gun idiocy, even old gun idiocy. This guy deserves the ridicule months, years, and decades later. He's an idiot, and you have received nothing but agreement on that point in this entire thread.
However, to post a thread whose first sentence includes "yesterday" with no indication that it actually happened a year ago is misleading, even if it is relevant.
