AUSTIN - It's the difference new eyes and a new life can make: a 4-month-old rescued puppy once blind from cataracts can now see and explore. Its a sharp contrast to just a few days ago when Danny kept his head down and slowly moved around a room to try and get his bearings. After the Austin Humane Society rescued Danny and 29 other dogs from a farm near Waco, doctors quickly realized Danny was losing his eyesight to juvenile cataracts. He'll run into the walls at our house and then stop and move the other way, said Dannys foster dad, Brett Franco. Now, with the playful energy of a puppy, Danny is bounding down hallways and chasing toys. He's actually in almost a run which we've never seen him do before, said Dannys foster mom Whitney Lowther-Franco. Thursday, Dr. Lynsey Wagner at Eye Care for Animals in North Austin performed free surgery to remove Dannys cataracts and just minutes after the sight-saving procedure, Danny was already alert and ready to play. It's great every time, that's why it's my favorite. It's the same feeling when you can just see them tracking you, even from the kennel. You just know they're seeing you for the first time, said Dr. Wagner. Danny's story was so touching it spread throughout the country in a matter of hours. We've had donations come from as far as Georgia, Colorado, Massachusetts, and California. People clearly heard this story and they want to help, said Kelly Hanes with the Austin Humane Society. Thanks to the generosity of strangers, the Austin Humane Society has enough money for not only Dannys care but other dogs to come. We've gotten more that's come in over the top of that, so that will leave a legacy for other animals, Hanes said. Danny will need to heal from surgery for the next six to eight weeks before he is ready for adoption. Nearly all of the 30 dogs rescued by the Austin Humane Society have been adopted.

(19,288 posts)I think that's how all the videos I ever tried to post came out. I'd try to help but I'd make it worse.
