From Raw Story:
Jindal also said that minorities are just clinging to their heritage and place too much emphasis on separateness. We live in the age of hyphenated Americans: Asian-Americans, Italian-Americans, African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Cuban-Americans, Indian-Americans, and Native Americans, to name just a few.
Heres an idea: How about just Americans? That has a nice ring to it, if you ask me. Placing undue emphasis on our separateness is a step backward. Bring back the melting pot, the governor opined.
Racism rears its ugly head from time to time?
Well thats news to me. Because racism rears its ugly head a lot in this country.
But if you want to praise Jindal for being the first Indian-American governor, then hell gladly accept his hyphenated status.
In an interview, NBC host David Gregory praised Jindal for being the first Indian-American governor.
I want my children to have those same opportunities, Jindal replied. This is the greatest country in the history of the world.
So minorities, stop clinging to your heritage, because according to Jindal, youre the ones that are actually making racism thrive.

So, minorities will be better off if they just transform themselves into a different shaded version of White people...
Whatever you say, Piyush. Oh, I'm sorry, "Bobby."

(16,926 posts)daho GOP Congressman Raul Labrador said Sunday on national TV that his personal story affirms that the American dream is alive and well. Labrador was a panelist as NBC's "Meet the Press" marked the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
Labrador criticized African-American leadership for "trying to get the community to think that everything is hopeless and without a future. ... And what we need to do is tell them that they can succeed.

"We're still the greatest nation on the earth. If you listen to what Martin Luther King talked about, he talked about making sure that we were not bitter about what was happening in America, but that we had hope. It was a beautiful speech. And I think that the leadership, or the African-American leadership needs to start thinking about that hope that Martin Luther King gave us instead of trying to get the community to think that everything is hopeless and without a future. I think when we tell our young people that in America they cannot succeed anymore, you will see more and more young people not succeeding. And what we need to do is tell them that they can succeed."

(10,751 posts)...same way Southerners cling to their heritage with the Confederate flag and all. They should stop doing that, it just "places undue emphasis on our 'separateness'".
How about just 'Americans'? he asks.
Indeed.

(45,319 posts)They put up stickers of their Not The US Flag and they fly their Not the US Flag and sing anthems to it, they fight for the right to fly their Not the US Flag.
They also casually refer to Americans from outside their region as Yankees to emphasize that they are not the same people or nation.
No offense to Southerners, I know this is not universal and I have Southern friends and family roots, but that 'we are not Americans' culture does thrive with flag and slurs all their own.

(38,187 posts)It hasn't gone away or died down any at all. It is always there.
Good grief, if African Americans want to use African-American instead of the horrible alternatives, then who is anyone else to complain about it?
Blaming the victims of racism is like blaming the victims or rape. It's the damn racists and the damn rapists that cause both of those things, not those on the receiving end. It is ridiculous the lengths some people will go through to blame those who are on the receiving end of the hate, instead of admitting the perpetrators are the cause, not the victims.
