Alleged "New and Explosive'" NSA "Revelations" Supported by... Floor Plans

With The Guardian and Glenn Greenwald being exposed for their pompous and self-righteous coloring and fabrications about the NSA to try to bring down the legitimacy of the American government, the "Team" has found a new track. Now, they went to the German paper Der Spiegel, and had a new story penned by Laura Poitras, Greenwald's homegirl. In it, Poitras(and her co-writers, such as they are, lay out outlandish claims - supported, they say, by NSA documents given to them by the American fugitive under the protection of the totally non-spying Russia - about how the NSA is spying on EU and UN missions.

And they came armed with evidence, too. Here, in its entirety, is the evidence they presented for the ... ahem... story...

to spend so much diplomatic energy and political capital.....for nothing!

How dumb, to spend countless hours demonizing Snowden....for nothing!

How crazy, to ground a diplomatic flight and encourage the detention of a journalist for nine hours.....for a trivial floor plan.

How totalitarian, to walk into the basement of a newspaper and destroy computers that reveal....nothing.

How unfocused, for the President to skip a personal meeting with Putin, at a time that cooperation over Syria is required, because of asylum granted to a whistleblower, that can reveal nothing of consequence.

How ill advised, to declare that there is nothing left to reveal, yet put so much stake into extraditing an apparently insignificant figure back to the United States to stand trial.

Bad Politics?

Bad diplomacy?

Or perhaps fear of what might be revealed.

Bugging the EU

The espionage attack on the EU is not only a surprise for most European diplomats, who until now assumed that they maintained friendly ties to the US government. It is also remarkable because the NSA has rolled out the full repertoire of intelligence-gathering tools -- and has apparently been taking this approach for many years now. According to an operational overview from September 2010 that is rated "secret," not only have the Americans infiltrated the EU mission to the UN in New York, but also the EU embassy in Washington, giving the building in the heart of the American capital the code name "Magothy."

According to this secret document, the NSA has targeted the European missions in three ways:

- The embassies in Washington and New York are bugged.
- At the embassy in New York, the hard disks have also been copied.
- In Washington the agents have also tapped into the internal computer cable network.

The infiltration of both EU embassies gave the technicians from Fort Meade an invaluable advantage: It guaranteed the Americans continuous access, even if they temporarily lost contact with one of the systems -- due, for instance, to a technical update or because an EU administrator thought that he had discovered a virus.
The embassies are linked via a so-called virtual private network (VPN). "If we lose access to one site, we can immediately regain it by riding the VPN to the other side and punching a whole (sic!) out," the NSA technicians said during an internal presentation. "We have done this several times when we got locked out of Magothy."

Especially not a right-wing blogger who claims to be a liberal every time he bashes the left.

They will not release any substantiating documents that would expose surveillance methods or operatives.

Snowden has also been clear that he didn't want to do this either. He didn't want to damage national security but to expose illegal activity. That is, he wanted the how protected but not the what.

and actually show us that the NSA is really spying on EVERYONE, as they allege… instead of just insinuating possibilities.

Is this the new meme now? That they can't prove anything because it would expose surveillance methods and /or operatives? Of course, this would mean they condemn Manning's document dump. How exactly does that work?

I believe a good standard of living and free association are far better at making a good society than spying on everyone.

The worst thing to come from the release is that it purports to have stopped hundreds of attacks.

Except, well, erm, that means it's working, right? So let's see these supposed attacks and let's have details of each and every attempt. It didn't stop Boston from happening.

"The Plot Thickens on Edward Snowden's Sino-Russian Love Affair"

Before American fugitive Edward Snowden arrived in Moscow in June — an arrival that Russian officials have said caught them by surprise — he spent several days living at the Russian Consulate in Hong Kong, a Moscow newspaper reported Monday. [...]

Kommersant cited conflicting accounts as to what brought Snowden to the consulate, on the 21st floor of a skyscraper in a fashionable neighborhood. It quoted a Russian close to the Snowden case as saying that the former NSA contractor arrived on his own initiative and asked for help. But a Western official also interviewed by the newspaper alleged that Russia had invited him.
