So I am in the market for a new Tacoma.
I see that a local dealership has started running a @#$$ton of new advertisements.
Great, fresh blood for my search of a good deal.
Nope, they're closed on a Sunday.
Doesn't it seem like the weekends are the best time for people to shop? That and the waste of marketing dollars just seems odd to me.

(6,670 posts)If you're going to keep on looking for one, why SHOULD the store be open on Sunday? It costs extra to work on Sunday. It would matter if you, not finding it, went somewhere else and bought something else. But you won't, so why should they spend more money on you?
Sorry if I sound cynical, but it's pretty basic economics.
I think that, in the big picture, all the wide variety of systems we used to use to manage our culture are getting replaced, one by one, with economic motivations only. And economic motivations ALWAYS look that bad, compared to a civil society.
... just didn't make sense for me based on how it turned out.
I kept calling around until I found someone who was open on the weekend and I'll do my business with them. Point is taken though.
For everyone else who doesn't know what it is.

(52,253 posts)sundays are a great day for car dealerships. it's a day when many more people are available at least to come in for a test drive. even when they couldn't process loans on sundays, it was a good pre-sale day, and people could finalize the sale during the week.
nowadays, some places can process loans on sundays so where it's possible for a dealership to be open on sundays, it's the second best day of the week (after saturday).
but where blue laws prevent car dealerships to be open on sundays, oh well, they have to be closed.

American Union Made Trucks are not good enough for you?
IMHO REAL Dems put their money where there mouth is and buy American Union Made Products.

Honestly, I don't know who makes what. I do know that Toyota has plants in the US (6 at a glance.)
In any case, I'd encourage them to develop a more attractive product and they would likely gain a larger market share.

Cars and trucks run on oil which is mostly produced elsewhere.

(34,136 posts)I have a friend who used to be a GMC truck sales person. Years ago, the dealership had people who sold only trucks, or only particular models. As the economy worsened, they laid off people and he had to sell not only trucks but other models.
Then they closed the dealership here in town and moved him to a nearby town. That lasted a year before that dealership closed. Now he's at the Honda dealership owned by the same company. He hates that because he knows trucks.
He's the kind of salesman that gets loyalty from his customers because he treats them good - customers have bought trucks from him for decades. And those customers are NOT going to buy a Honda, they will buy a GM truck from somewhere else.
He's still their top salesman but he's having to build a new customer base.
Now that things are picking up a little, though, he's working six days a week. The only reason he doesn't work seven days is they are closed on Sunday. If they were, he'd never get a day off. The dealership just doesn't have enough people to keep open that many days a week.

(62,423 posts)by law was to give the salesman a day off.
Since most of them are on (or used to be) straight commission if the dealership was open, then the sales force was there.
And if Bob opened on Sunday, then of course Dick and Bill and everyone else would be too.
Never checked to see if it were true, but if I were working a job like that I would probably never leave either.
