This Guy Fucked Me: Why Roger Ailes Fired Top Fox News Exec
J.K. TROTTER
Why did Fox News president Roger Ailes fire his top lieutenant? The sudden ousting of PR chief Brian Lewis, who had pioneered the channels aggressive public relations strategy since its founding in 1996, inspired plenty of speculation and spin some of it from the networks on-air talent about Lewiss reputation at the channel, Foxs vague claims of financial irregularities, and what the channel called multiple, material and significant breaches of (Lewiss) employment contract.
But it was suspicions about Lewis relationship with writer Gabriel Sherman that sent boss Roger Ailes over the edge, an insider source at 21st Century Fox confirmed. The financial stuff would have been a slap on the wrist if there werent a sense that [Lewis] was talking outside the company, the source told Gawker, referring to Sherman and his upcoming inside account of Fox News, The Loudest Voice in the Room. Ailes felt: This guy fucked me, and I am going to fuck him harder. ....
That financial stuff, we are told, involves allegations that Lewis expensed vacations and other leisure activities that werent strictly work-related.
The source added, referring to Brigantis penchant for unnecessary aggression: Irena is now trying to tell people that Brian forced her to be the pit bull with reporters so that he could play the good guy. Everyone there was terrified of him. All the ugliness they were putting out was manifested on the inside.
One of the vectors of that ugliness is Greta van Susterens blog, which last week attempted to shrug off news of Lewiss departure by claiming, laughably, that he was essentially a nobodyFrankly, I dont think I could pick Brian out of a line up! van Susteren wrote. She may not have seen Lewis around the office much, working as she does out of the networks Washington bureau. But our source said she certainly knew who he was, having engaged in a lengthy internal battle with him over his efforts to replace her with Megyn Kelly. Thats such bullshit, our source said. They hated each other, because Brian was always pushing for Megyn Kelly to take over her timeslot. She knows who he is. (Indeed, Kelly will reportedly take Sean Hannitys slot soon, leaving observers to wonder whether Hannity will take over Van Susterens in turn.) ....
...Shortly after the news of Lewiss firing surfaced, Sherman recounted an exchange in which Lewis called anchor Bill OReilly a chucklehead for being photographed next to a womans exposed breasts. ....

Juan Williams Is Just a Grumpy Old Republican Now
Hamilton NOLAN
His op-ed today in the Wall Street Journal (naturally) is a deft combination of the "I'm an old person here to declare that music was better in my day" genre and the "I am a black conservative here to reassure white conservatives that it is okay to dislike modern black youth culture" genre. Williams takes the occasion of the anniversary of the March on Washington to note: Hey, these hippity-hoppers today with their baggy trousers and backwards baseball caps are no Peter, Paul, and Mary, that much is for sure!
In Jay-Z's current hit, "Holy Grail," he sings about "psycho bitches" and uses the n-word seven times while bragging that he is "Living the life . . . Illest [n-word] alive." Another top rapper, Lil Wayne, released a song in the spring with an obscenity in the title, using the n-word repeatedly and depicting himself as abusing "hoes" and "bitches."
Similar examples abound in the rap-music world and have persisted for years with scarcely any complaint from today's civil-rights leaders.
Why don't "civil-rights leaders" (read: black people) complain about the songs made by popular rappers (read: other black people)? The answer is: they do. The other answer is: maybe they have better things to do, like, I dunno, working on civil rights issues? The other answer is: Why don't white Republicans complain about Keith Urban and Tim McGraw? That shit is real wack.
You coulda been a contender, Juan Williams.
