Alabama Legislature Proposes Law Banning Family Reunions

Alabama State Senator Introduces Reunion Ban over Same Sex PDAs

by Shirley Cousins

Birmingham, 1PM -An Alabama State Senator has introduced a bill making family reunions illegal in the state. Sen. Beauregard Whiplash (R), in a press conference held on the Capitol steps, explained the bill, saying "I had the displeasure of attending a family reunion this past week, and I was shocked beyond belief to see so many cousins in that family hugging and kissing each other brazenly and openly. Such public displays of affection even occurred between cousins of the same sex. To make matters worse, small children were there and witnessed this shocking behavior. The impression such a travesty might have on young children cannot be a good thing. Why, I even saw adults encouraging youngsters, even toddlers, to engage in similar behavior. One woman told a child who could not be more than 3 years old to 'kiss your sweet cousin, Laurel, now...' and actually photographed the spectacle."

It is unclear at this point whether the bill has broad-based support in the Legislature, but if it passes, it could change the way families gather for decades to come. Similar bills are being introduced in other states by beleaguered Republicans, according to reports.

What would we do without Poe's Law, after all.

I understand that Poe's Law is supported by ALEC, and will be introduced in over 20 states next year.
