Question About Covered California (Obamacare CA)

I've been reading up on Obamacare CA as my family plans on moving to Obamacare ASAP. We have been on my wife's COBRA, which runs out at the end of the year.

I'm not working at present, so I'm imaging that our family of 4 will sign up for Obamacare, which kicks in on 1/1/14.

However, I've been interviewing and have a pretty good track on a decent job that would include benefits. Unfortunately, that job is in the non-profit sector, which (from my past experience) has not-so-good health plans. Outside of the health sector, most non-profit health plans are targeted at single employees, and adding family members can be very expensive. The last two jobs I held were in non-profit, and in both instances, I could only add family members to my employer-provided plan by paying full ride as a monthly premium. In other words, my employers were paying around $300 per month for my benefits, and it would have cost me $300 PER family member to add my wife and our two kids, or $900 a month, and that with a high deductible.

So my question as it concerns Obamacare is this: is it possible for me to take the health insurance offered by an employer while my wife and the two kids go on Obamacare? That would seem to be the most-economical option. Or, is Obamacare based on total household income, which means that my income AND benefit options would need to be on the table in determining whether my wife and kids qualified for Obamacare?

My wife's current job does not offer any benefits. It would seem that she should be able to go on Obamacare.

Any ideas?
