(3,978 posts)there are some that do not feel like war is a last resort but rather the primary way to resolve anything.

(61,935 posts)peace if it means that other people do what they say. Right now over in Syria there are two sides fighting a civil war. Neither side is supportive of US interests in the area, yet people here who will never be in Syria and whose lives will not be effected by who wins the civil war are absolutely horrified at the prospect that one side will prevail over the other and clamor for violence to effect the outcome. If that isn't being against peace, what is?

(11,619 posts)They fight wars. I think that kind of conflict evolved with us.
Historically, we have shown that peace is possible at times and places where groups of people were willing to compromise rather than fight, or where one side conquered the other (The Pax Romana or Roman peace existed because the killed anyone that disagreed).
From what I've seen Assad isn't willing to compromise but is more than willing to find peace through conquest of his own people.
So, being a good agnostic, I will just say that historically peace has been possible in the right circumstances of compromise, or after everyone on one side of both of the battlefield are dead.

(13,340 posts)... but there are those who will continue to inflict pain, suffering and death until stopped by one means or another.
Violence isn't always the answer. It's not even even usually the answer. But sometimes, it is necessary. That is simply the sad reality of the world today. I hope that someday it will not be so, but for now, it is.

(3,978 posts)but it seems so different with what I have been taught and raised ever since a child. It is difficult for me to grapple with this very different worldview.

(511 posts)And that it must be dealt with by an ever-vigilant counter force. It is when believers in good do nothing that evil gains a foothold and expands into the world.
It's pervasive nature gives us the perverted, cruel, and corrupt leadership institutions of America today.
Peace is great. But pacifism can get you killed...
