George Zimmerman will ask the state of Florida to reimburse him for as much as $300,000 in expenses he racked up successfully defending himself in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, NBC News has learned.
Zimmerman and his legal team believe they are entitled to the refund because Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder July 13 for having shot and killed Martin, 17.
The shooting in February 2012 sparked a national discussion over racial profiling after Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, said he acted in self-defense.
The motion, to be filed by Zimmerman's lead attorney, Mark O'Mara, would seek refunds for the hundreds of thousands of dollars the defense spent on fees for expert witnesses and court reporters for depositions, travel and other similar expenses.

(5,756 posts)As much as I wish he would've been found to be guilty of at least manslaughter he was found innocent. So if FL law says he gets reimbursed then that should be done.

(20,453 posts)Hey, I know... Let's pass a law that entices obtuse fuck tards like Zimmerman to challenge said laws, that we find are not broken after all. With "laws" like that, who needs criminals, right? So, then Zimmerman can now ask the done-for state that allowed the law to reimburse "not criminals" like him to perpetuate other fuck tards like him to "not" break laws like this! Yeah...
Apologies to anyone who thinks "tard" was bad. However, this shit-stain should really ask the Koch brothers for his fucking money, since they supply the lubricants every fuck tard uses before pushing their heads further up their asses, anyway.

(2,682 posts)imply that he is going for a wrongful arrest and prosecution? I don't live in Florida and I don't know the laws there but my instinct is that money used in a defense is money spent by the defendant and not reimbursable just because he managed to get a not-guilty verdict. It's only in civil cases that the defendant can ask for damages and attorney fees to be paid if they are found not-liable. Never heard of it in a criminal case. And what about that fund that was accumulating for Zim? The gun people who sent donations -- what happened to that money. Wasn't it supposed to be used for his defense? If it was used for anything else, wouldn't that be fraud?
Ah, more legal questions left unanswered by this case.
