Why Tapping The Strategic Petroleum Reserve Now Would Be Completely Insane

With gas prices rallying, there's bound to be growing chatter about whether or not the US should tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

The answer is: no.

The longer answer is: Really, no.

Here's a look at gasoline availability in the US: (see graph at link)

We have more days' worth of gasoline now in the US than at any time since the late 90s

Threaten loudly to tap it to exert some needed pressure on the speculators, oh yea.

As long as the oil speculators control the message about potential supply disruptions we all pay.

He doesn't actually HAVE to. Clinton did this MANY times and never actually released any, keeping gas prices at around $1 a gallon.

rise to high. When he did it last year, Obama tamed the speculators.
