Egypt will not allow US & UK warships through Suez canal to attack Syria (Egpytian News)

Pepe Escobar
BREAKING NOW.

VERY interesting. According to Egyptian TV, Pinochet Sisi - the House of Saud protege - is NOT allowing US and UK warships to pass through the Suez Canal; they will, obviously, attack Syria. Cairo is AGAINST Obama's Tomahawk war.

Let's see if this ends up sinking the $1.3billion in military aid from the US - which to a great extent translates into Egypt giving priority to US ships across Suez.

Obviously the House of Saud and the UAE could easily make up for the $1.3billion. And Egypt could buy Russian weapons - as Bandar and Putin discussed in Moscow. Sisi would NEVER do this without Saudi approval (after all, they are paying the bills).

Shadowplay is on, BIG TIME, at all levels.

I could only find one mention of this on the Anglo net and it was on a French-Iranian Website. I apologize for the source. Make of it what you will. Translation mine

"No warship has the right to pass through the Suez Canal to attack Syria" (Egyptian Minister of Defense)

IRIB-"No American war ship or British or else is allowed to pass through the Suez Canal ship," ordered the Egyptian Minister of Defense.

According Farsnews, citing Reuters, General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi insisted that no authorization be given to warships that would attack Syria. The decision was taken as part of the Egyptian government's respect of the the joint defense agreement signed between Egypt and Syria, Reuters announced, making an attack against Syria difficult for the United States and Great Britain, according to the same agency.

1. Egypt has the right to close the canal to traffic that Egypt feels will harm Egyptian security

And I can't imagine that the junta would feel very secure if it allowed warships through the canal to attack another Arab nation.

5. It's not a matter of opinion, it's part of the Convention of Constantinople

Of course, if the Western powers ignored that, it wouldn't be the first time. Still, Egypt has the right, even with an illegitimate government calling the shots

If not, thank you Egypt!

Obama administration first support religious radicals in Egypt, and now in Syria. It's a threat to the security of many countries.

7. True that. Morsi had announced permission for Egyptians to go fight with the rebels.

I can't find that article now but this is close enough. This is a very dangerous hornets nest.

Just as Assad is gaining the upper hand in the Syrian Civil War, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has decided to cut ties with him. The countries that once briefly formed the United Arab Republic will no longer have diplomatic ties for as long as Assad remains in power and the bloody conflict continues, reports the FT:

Egypt has announced increased support for the armed uprising against Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, cutting diplomatic ties to the Damascus regime and holding a massive rally to drum-up funds and potential fighters for the effort.

President Mohamed Morsi, a Sunni Islamist, told thousands attending the rally at Cairo Stadium on Saturday that the Arab world’s most populous nation would stand with the Syrian revolution against Mr Assad’s Alawite Muslim regime, which is mostly drawn from a Shia minority sect….

“When the Syrian people ask for our assistance, we will not refuse at all, but rather we will support the struggle of our brothers in Syria until they get the freedom of choosing their ruler.”

Morsi also called for a no-fly zone over Syria, which the Assad regime was quick to denounce as the project of a joint US-Israeli conspiracy.

...

It’s too early to say, but one potential danger that has some concerned is that Egyptian jihadists would fight in Syria and eventually return to Egypt “to do internal jihad,” as one Egyptian commentator warned. An estimated 2,500 Egyptian militants have already gone to Syria, and whatever Morsi would make of their violent return to Egypt, it would certainly be bad in the eyes of the United States. American terror experts remember all too well that Osama bin Laden drew many al-Qaeda recruits from those who first gained experience fighting a “holy war” in Afghanistan. Nobody wants to see the Syrian conflict play a similar role in the future.

This isn't an endorsement of U.S. military action in Syria.

However, the U.S. already has assets within striking distance of Syria in the Mediterranean. There is no need to transit through the Suez canal in order to launch an attack.
