(7,947 posts)Only US citizens pay for it(while citizens in other countries get to pay for their health care), which is why there is no governing body that gets to tell the US Government no, but that's what you get for the US military being the last one standing after the 20th century.
It's not so much about defending America, as it is about defending the international system, whatever there is of it, that America helped shape as a result of outlasting every other government that was in the game.
