W.Va. Woman Loses Everything When Wrong House is Repossessed

Source: WSAZ

A woman is trying to put her life back together after returning home to an empty house.

Nikki Bailey got home from visiting her best friend in the hospital just in time to see the repossession company leaving.

... The repossession company was told to remove everything from the house on Godby Heights in Logan. Bailey lives on Godby Street. Godby Heights is in Chapmanville.

... Bailey's attorney is also trying to pin down where the mistake was made. The repossession company, CTM Industries, did go to the wrong house, but the address they were given by the bank wasn't accurate. Attorney Tim DiPiero is currently trying to figure out which bank ordered the repossession.

Highly unlikely. The owner doesn't believe them either and is "constantly checking ebay and craigslist for her stuff."

This is happening with enough frequency around the country, that every state needs to pass a law stating

1. a notice must be mailed and put on the door 7 days prior to repossession stating intent to repossess and that all items in the house will be removed;
2. a second notice must be mailed and placed on the door on the day possessions are removed stating the name, address, and phone # of the removal company and bank;
3. both notices must contain the target house's full address spelled out, including street names (Avenue, Road, Court etc) and the name of owner of the targeted house; and
4. all items must be inventoried and stored for 60 in a secured area so that items can be retrieved by the owner if a mistake like the above was made.

There is NO excuse for this to keep happening.
