General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIf we do attack Syria, 10 things I think that prove it'll be awesome.
1. Our news networks. They will all have a collective orgasm. The floor of the newsrooms will be so sticky a tractor will not be able to pull Wolf Blitzer off of the giafriggenourmous battle map floor. We will have 24/7 news starting out with reporters on giant, floating, killing machines in the Mediterranean just itching for that first launch so they can get that ever-so-coveted tight shot as the missile leaves the tube to the wider sunset shot as it makes its way off to some foreign country to lay down some rather indiscriminate death upon a "military" target.
2. MIC... $$$... nuff said.
3. Our American fighting men and women. About 4,000 or so should come home in a beautifully flag-draped box. Another 25,000 or so, should come home with a purple heart, sans a limb or two and some post traumatic stress mixed in for good measure. But that's the price of freedom right? Don't forget, when they get home, we should ignore them. They like that. They are built tough and should not get the medical care or counseling that they will so desperately need. They will have done their job, and their country will be completely done with them. But when you see them out and about, make sure to thank them for their service. That makes it all better.
4. Contract armed forces... Hell yeah! Sure they get to raping and indiscriminately killing folks from time to time. But they can't hear the screams over how awesome they are.
5. Gas prices shall soar to new heights. This will be so cool for the Exxon/PB/Shell/etc companies. Not only will they make record profits again... They will still get to pull in their subsidies.
6. $1.4 million for a top of the line cruse missile. But don't forget that the GPS or guidance software was written by the lowest bidder. So if one or two or fifty are slightly off and land in a neighborhood or plow through a hospital, you can comfort yourself knowing that they saved taxpayers about $3 by getting the cheaper parts. Now that's what's important.
7. Civilians... Look at it this way. We all die. Right? So we will have a hundred thousand or so folks who will personally spare growing old and having to deal with arthritis, or needing reading glasses and stuff. Consider it a favor.
8. We are all too dependent on all of the luxuries in life. Like running water, food, electricity, or even sanitation. So after one or two missiles miss and take out a power plant or water system, those folks will be getting back to our roots as human beings. We don't want to get in there too quickly to deliver water and food. That stuff is expensive. Let these folks take care of themselves. They will thank us for it later.
9. New places and new sights. There will be ten of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of folks who will be looking to get the heck out of Dodge. Let me tell you. You have not lived until you and your family, have had a good holiday at a border refugee camp. Sure folks get to raping and murdering on the rare occasion at these camps. But that's the price you pay to stay in a five-star canvas tent with all of your worldly possessions stacked in a corner.
10. Yellow Ribbon car magnets and 'Murican Flags... All made in the good 'ole U.S.China. Buy stock in these companies now... You'll be glad you did!
I can't wait!!! Why haven't we started yet?

(594 posts)There will be a surgical strike within the next 48 hours, beginning with a Tomahawk strike, followed by the bombing of Syrian radar and missile sites by B-52 flying in from Diego Garcia, ending with a fighter bomber cleanup. It will all be over within 12 hours, in time for MSM to cover the next Miley Cyrus outrage.

(62,266 posts)So it had to go on until it was finished. This is more of a one time deal where you take out their factories. Though it's starting to look like it may be radar facilities and radio facilities.

(8,821 posts)What we see here is an excess of hubris on the part of a bunch of general officer class types. History is replete with horrifying examples of where that can lead a country.

(10,711 posts)so numbers 3 and 4 probably won't apply. The rest, who knows? I'm not expecting another Iraq (there's only one guy who could organize a fiasco like that, and he's busy painting dogs and cats now), but its hard to imagine it would be anything as straightforward as Libya.

(18,998 posts)a year or two from now there will be movies or TV shows that show how awesome it is to be a cruse missal launcher and how they do it for our freedom...and how we should all call them heroes and thank them for their service....we can re live it over and over again if we have DVR.
It could replace Trany porn as a masturbation aid.

(6,899 posts)100,000 are already dead. It is almost certain that US response to the use of poison gas will be by cruise missile only, it will be intended to prevent more gas use by demonstrating that there will be consequences.

(10,201 posts)I feel we could do better than 100k, but hey at least we have a number to aim for.
Progressive dog
(6,899 posts)anywhere near 100k. Of course some will blame the US if even one is killed. After all, we're coming to get Assad's oil.
Glassunion
(10,201 posts)11. Hearts and minds... We always leave any country we attack better than when we started. These countries are always so grateful, that they have celebrations in our honor. We won't fill an entire generation of starving, angry young men with hatred or animosity towards the good ole USA. America will be safer for it, as we have always had such a thoughtful foreign policy.
Progressive dog
(6,899 posts)our old chemical weapons that we still haven't destroyed. Save the cost of destroying them and help out some of those guys we'd normally attack. They would be so grateful, they probably would have celebrations in our honor.
BTW I don't really worry about how N.Korea feels about us. I do seem to remember that there was a time when we fought Germany and Japan and Italy, no wonder they are in such horrible shape and hate the US.
Glassunion
(10,201 posts)Yes we are on good terms now... Not so much back then. But hey, maybe if we spank Syria with a nuke or two like we did in Japan, maybe they will become mailable.
Progressive dog
(6,899 posts)and then the Syrian government will continue to love us.
We shouldn't have bothered with those nukes, we could have just surrendered to Japan or maybe withdrawing from the Pacific would have been enough. If we'd really been smart, we could have surrendered before Pearl Harbor. That was that war mongering FDR's fault.
Glassunion
(10,201 posts)The difference between this and WWII is that we were directly attacked and war was declared on us.
The US did not enter to stop the Holocaust, it was a byproduct of our victory.
I'm not saying that we should do nothing.
Why is it in April of 2011, we were not up in arms when Assad's government fired on civilian protestors?
Why is it in September of 2012, we were not up in arms when Assad had his army drop cluster bombs on civilians?
Why is it in March of 2013, we were not up in arms when Assad had fuel-air bombs dropped on Qusayr?
Why is it in July of 2013, we were not up in arms when the death toll rose above 100,000?
I am saying that if we do take the route of a bombing campaign, we will be highly successful, the byproduct of which will be the death of far more civilians than those that were killed in the chemical attack. I fear that history has proven time and again that war is horrific, and if we do decide to wage one, the outcome will be horrific.
Progressive dog
(6,899 posts)The Syrians already have an internal war, US attacks will be against the Syrian military. The object would be punishment of the Assad regime for the use of poison gas.

(20,776 posts)ALL the great movies and dramas, stemming from this Action. Wow, it will start Hollywood writers running for stories of the Brave Men and Women who gave up their lives, or a few limbs.. And maybe there will be those REALITY SHOWS... and you can imagine the titles, like .. BATTLE TORN MAN... with such great stories being presented, it should encourage recruiting the new soldiers for the next war, all eager to become the next JOHN WAYNE style Hero.
