(5,279 posts)We (or at least our evil ones hidden in the population) have already manipulated Iranian governmental power (1953 overthrow of democratically elected government and re-establishment of Royal governmental system; the democratic government had nationalized the oil fields).
The US doesn't give a shit about Syrian oil fields, They want the Iranian oil fields.
The human toll, the environmental waste, the debt to our economy, the dragging of our national image through the drainage of the worlds largest outhouse, the rape of the public's trust in our own government, and the utter rejection of the opinion of the American people do not fucking matter. Everything else other than the oil fields of Iran is acceptable collateral damage.

Look, in Libya oil exports are 20% of exports now than they were prior to U.S. intervention. You think the admin doesn't know that Syria is in far worse shape both now and in the foreseeable future than Libya? They do.
Syria is about a lot of things, from the President having drawn that immutable red line to that our fallback has become use of our military to Israel, oil, etc.
