(25,241 posts)and I feel that this is a big story that should be reported. Many people watching the proceedings and speeches yesterday might have been so caught up in the history and greatness of the moment - that they may miss the fact that no Repug was present at the event and that it was completely ignored by the Repug Party. In my mind - this is big news and should be touted by Dems as the elections of 2014 and 2016 roll around.
It screams of total disregard by the Repug Party of a large segment of Americans that they have basically written off.
What struck me as I watched the proceedings yesterday was the make-up of the crowd. Fifty years ago the crowd at the reflecting pool and Lincoln Memorial was primarily Black Americans.
Yesterday as the cameras panned the crowd - it was a diverse group of all Americans. I saw people from all walks of life in the crowd. Men, women, old, young, Black, White, Latinos, people with turbans, military, police, etc.
That picture in my mind told me that we've come a long way since 1963 and says a lot about the impact of MLK.
Repugs being absent from that podium yesterday - says a lot to those people in the crowd and people like myself that were watching all over America.
The Repugs have written off a majority of the American population and they need to pay for that.
"We The People" need to take every chance we can get to spread the word that the Repugs have written off all but the 1%'ers and the wacko's. They are not a 'party of the people'. They are painting a picture that they don't need us - and that information needs to be hammered home by all Dems in office in the run up to 2014 and 2016.
If they don't need us - we certainly don't need them.
