45 years ago today in Democratic Party history

Vice President Hubert Humphrey of Minnesota was nominated for the presidency of the United States and selected Senator Edmund S. Muskie of Maine to be his running mate. The election was one of the closest ever with Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew winning by only 500,000 votes out of more than 73 million votes cast.

and maybe where that 500K came from becomes clearer. Of course you can do the same for Reagan/Carter. When you get to GHW Bush, he had already committed impeachable war crimes in the Iran Contra scandal. Need I go into Bush the Lesser and Fat Tony and his gang of thieves? In short NO republican has been elected president without criminal actions in 50 years. But no use looking backward RIGHT????
