I'm only ignorant because they want me to be

It's is a fact the government has more information than they share with me. In general I am not paranoid about this fact. I live in a representative government and in general vote for people to represent me. I also pay thousands of people to work for my government some of them collect information and facts to share with my elected representatives so they can make the best informed decisions possible. Honestly most of the time not knowing fuck all about for instance the latest up to the date diplomatic information on Iceland is perfectly ok. If you had to be an expert on every country and everything to make America work, America would be hosed.

But there is a trade off for the government. The trade off is I don't know fuck all about Syria. Fine. But if the government wants the will of the people on its side it better take the time to inform me about it before a major decision. Once again it is what I vote and pay them to do. That guy at the state department who knows all this great information should take the time to inform me too. That is if he wants any chance of me to agree to military strikes again Syria.

I'm not a hard person. I am not a person that can not be persuaded by facts. When the second gulf war came I saw our countries facts for their case for war. I saw the pictures that Little Billy draw because apparently our satellites were out sick that day. I laughed at the yellow cake uranium lies...

Well here we are again. I mean you can crow all you want that I'm ignorant. That's fine. But not many DUers want to be ignorant of the facts before a war. If the president, the congress, the angry chicken hawk media guy on TV want my will or my consent for war than all I want in return is for them to do their job. Educate me to the facts; why are we going to war, why is this the only option, what is the goal of the war, what are the major reasons you think our countries military actions will generate these goals, what are the cost to obtain these goals. So far the information isn't out there to the people of this nation to make a clear answer to any of these questions.

I freely agree I am ignorant, but I will never consent to strikes while being left in a state of ignorance. Who frankly would? If the war comes before we reached the point of full disclosure than don't you worry you're only ignorant because they want you to be...

but only for our acquiescence? With all the drum beating and 911 fresh in our hearts, public approval for the invasion of Iraq never went above 47% (and that was IF the UN approved which they didn't).

This new war is polling at 9%. They will never get it to 50% before striking. Not sure that is really what they are trying to do. More likely they just want us all to sit back and be disgusted. If so, Mission Accomplished.
