"Local Food Vendors Coming To The Field Museum"

I know this sounds 'local', but I wanted to know if any of you people out there know of other museums/similar doing this? I think it's a fantastic idea. Adds a little style and interest to eating at the museum. The Field Museum was never known for their food.

The main floor restaurant will be The Field Bistro, which will serve seasonal food made with local ingredients, as well as beer and wine. The McDonald's downstairs will be replaced with the Explorer Cafe, a "family-friendly" restaurant that we bet any amount of money will have chicken fingers on the menu.
It's good to see the Field aligning its food politics with its institutional politics. The museum has participated in a number of green initiatives, most notably the organic garden run by museum staff, and this educational process can now extend into their restaurants. Plus, the food can only get better than what it is now.

There's some decent food at museums in the Twin Cities of MN. No McDonalds. Not everywhere, but many of them have locally-run dining facilities.

That said, I love the Field Museum no matter what food they offer. I go there anytime I'm in Chicago.

In NYC, The Museum of Natural History is even better. I have no idea what the food is like there, though. I've never eaten there.

...your avatar changed while I was replying.

Glad to hear that others are doing the same thing. So much better for tourists.

I miss The Field Museum. Can't wait to take the husband there next time we get to Chicago. He's not excited about it, but I love showing it off.

I've heard the NY Museum is incredible, but I'll never get to NY. If I win the lottery, I'm headed to the Smithsonian. I'll leave the husband somewhere safe for a few days...or weeks.

Too expensive.

They have a whole spread on this in the members magazine, which I received just today.

They're also going to have a cool exhibit on Nazi propaganda.

The only museums we have are cowboy/western museums. Because history didn't start until the 19th century.

Next time you go, tell the shrunken heads I said, "Hi!". OH! And, say 'hi' to Sue for me, too!

It's been a few years since I've been to the Field Museum. When I used to go, I always avoided eating there. The food was too expensive, and not very good.

The...worst...cafeteria 'food' ever. McDonald's was like a 5 star restaurant in comparison.

It is a great move for them.

Pricey, though. I haven't eaten at the ones in any of the other museums.

The one time I was at the Field I was a bit taken aback to see a MacDonald's franchise: it was the first and only time I've eaten their chicken chunks.
