Action Alert from Vets for Peace, chapter 27, No War With Syria.

No War with Syria!

Last night, August 27, members and supporters of Veterans for Peace Chapter 27, gathered at the Frank Kellogg House in St. Paul, to honor the only Minnesotan ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Frank Kellogg, Republican Secretary of State, under Coolidge, received the award for engineering the 1928 Kellogg-Briand Pact, renouncing war as a means of national policy. It was signed into law by 15 nations, including the United States on August 27, 1928, and it's today signed by 84 nations, still binding, and virtually no one, even in Minnesota, is aware of Kellogg, or of the Pact. A major reason for this collective amnesia is due in no small part to the powers that benefit from keeping the world supplied with weapons, and keeping us in war.

The Pact has bearing on every war we've ever engaged in (which seem to all come up short, after the fact), and ESPECIALLY NOW WITH THE SITUATION IN SYRIA.

What can we do?
Sign the petition below calling for no military intervention in Syria!

Call or write the President and your legislators and tell them not to drag us into war with Syria, based on half truths. Ask them, WHY DO WE HAVE TO GO KILL CIVILIANS TO TEACH PEOPLE IT'S WRONG TO KILL CIVILIANS?

Call the White House at 202-456-1111 or the Switchboard at 202-456-1414

Call your elected Representatives and Senators in their State or District offices (they are on recess) – Demand NO military intervention in Syria. To find the phone number: Click Here

Tell them that according to United States Statutes Vol 46 Part 2 Page 2343 (the Kellogg-Briand Pact) that any military action against Syria would be illegal. Remind them that that as our elected officials you expect them to up-hold U.S. law.

Article one and two (shown below) of the Kellogg-Briand Pact treaty clearly delineates that any of the considered military strikes on Syria would be against U.S. and international law.

ARTICLE I
The High Contracting Parties solemly declare in the names of their respective peoples that they condemn recourse to war for the solution of international controversies, and renounce it, as an instrument of national policy in their relations with one another.
ARTICLE II
The High Contracting Parties agree that the settlement or solution of all disputes or conflicts of whatever nature or of whatever origin they may be, which may arise among them, shall never be sought except by pacific means.
