In Syria, more children and other civilians are going to die. period.

That's heartbreaking but it's not something that has a military solution. Syria is in the midst of a violent, largely sectarian civil war and the U.S. military is not the solution.

Sometimes there is no solution. We can work on a multi nation negotiated settlement between the parties, though there certainly hasn't been much success with that. We can mount a massive relief effort for the refugees. That would save lives, but we can't stop this civil war by the use of our big hammer. To attempt to do so runs terrible risks for Syria and the region, just for starters.

It's heartbreaking, it's tragic.

The U.S. military is not going to fix it.
