As a retired teacher, I can say that there are many issues with having armed teachers that the advocates for such a policy are not even considering. In order for a gun to be effective defense, it must be easily available and ready to fire, but how can you have such a gun when you are surrounded by small children? Does the teacher wear the gun in a holster or keep it in a desk drawer? If in a desk drawer, must the teacher always stick close to the desk and not be out in the classroom among the children? And if it is locked in a desk drawer, what do you do when you take a class to the library or another location for other educational services? Teachers also get sick or have personal matters to attend to during a school day so substitutes must be brought in. Do they have firearms, too? These are just some of the issues. I have tried to imagine teaching while being armed and I can't see that it would enhance the school day or feeling of security at all.

Just what, exactly, was it they were saying about the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun? How's that again?

But it just seemed like such a worth-while story to have DUers see.

Was the teacher expected to apologize for being in
the way of the bullet, just like Darth's lawyer friend?
