I worked in the financial industry for a time. It really doesn't matter much more than that because that is how they base trading in stocks. That is the basis of how your goods get transported, sold and distributed. It's also the basis for how the military moves since they are the largest purchaser of oil derivatives.

(114,904 posts)children and civilians will continue to casualties in this civil war. The rebel cry is one for genocide and they've already killed lots of civilians as has the Assad regime. U.S. missile strikes won't stop it and could even make it worse.
and actually, there are quite a few blond blue eyed Syrians. In any case, most Syrians look no less white than Italians.
fuck, try to inform yourself.

(26,366 posts)WASHINGTON, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Obama administration officials have contacted energy experts in recent days to discuss oil market conditions as the president weighs a military strike against Syria, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
There are no signs the government is preparing to tap emergency oil reserves soon in a bid to tame rising prices, according to the sources who spoke with Reuters this week, though the administration is closely monitoring the situation.
Fears about Syria's civil war spilling over into other countries have helped propel international oil prices to their highest level in six months, rising more than $8 a barrel since the beginning of the month, and approaching a level that has slowed the global economy in the past.

(39,961 posts)Things get to your neighborhood grocery store by magic. The military moves aircraft carriers and aircraft by magic. Your car is filled with magic. When things get delivered to your door, it was fueled by magic. You do business based upon goods, services and your ability to get both of those things there by magic.
That's what some people don't seem to understand or don't want to understand. It sucks, but it's the truth. It's why we are in this mess.

(37,364 posts)War for oil, war for BFEE/PNAC, war for you name it. DUers sometimes only see what they want to see. Biting on every CT dragged by is expected.
I don't want war, but the articulation by Grayson today of some of the sentiments I've seen today on this board left me cold. Just tough these children were massacred. When this sort of atrocity becomes an inconvenience, then you are no better than the despots descried. What makes the killing Syria's children less important than those of other nations. The world should stand back and wait until another Kosovo or Rwanda occurs and then cry that it was too late? Selective outrage will get us nowhere.

(39,343 posts)Kids suffer everyday HERE yet we cut food stamps and make their parents take drug tests to prove they're not high.
No one really gives a damn about the kids. Kids are used to manipulate the easily moved or soft. Generals don't care about kids when they draw up targets.

I bet the parents of the children killed last fall and winter and spring would tell those here arguing for the children that the method used to kill them is not a valid distinction.
