Bush Ruined it for the Warmongers

No longer will a president of the US be able to lie us into war.

Bush did lie and the country learned a lesson.

Even those who thought Bush was the best this country had to offer (the fools!) are now singing the old hippie, civil rights era song of:

War. Huh? What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing.

America has turned a corner. England, too. For the first time since they declared the war against the states to be over, they have turned down a chance for more war!

This is truly an Historic occasion. And we get to be part of it.

Democrats swept into power in 2006 and 2008 by bonding themselves to the antiwar movement

They can't 'do' war after that

I don't.

Even here in the mountains, people were po'd at Bush.

And asking: What good is war?

...that maybe this country needed this outright lie to be made before it would grow up and decide not to act like children on the playground.

Like the first time any of us began to understand that Santa Claus was a lie, and hey, we've been lied to!

Future presidents will be able to lie this country into war. What we are seeing now is a good example of the difference between a President Obama versus a President McCain and a President Obama versus a President Romney. What is happening now shows the importance of who is in the White House and who controls Congress. For all of you DUers who argue with those who say there is no difference between the people who would reside in the White House Syria is your exhibit A in the case against that idea. In my opinion if there would have been a President McCain or a President Romney we would already be at war with Syria.

In addition, I think some of the opposition to going to war with Syria is due to President Obama being a Democrat and black. There may a large number of Republicans who do not like President Obama and do not want to support allowing him to go to war. I think if either McCain or Romney were President there would be more support for invading Syria.

Romney or McCain would both be shouted down and made to produce the evidence. Same as we are asking from Obama.

because doing so would "question their patriotism", something you can't do to a white republican. However, you can call a black democratic president a liar aloud from the floor of congress during the SOTU....

we would already be bombing with troops on the way if we had a Republican president. Yes, those of us opposed to military action in Syria would be screaming, but they can and have ignored us before.

I am proud of what I have been reading on DU. Seems 90% are against war.

If only that were so. For now, recent disasters are still fresh in our collective mind... but we always forget eventually. It's up to us to keep it in memory for as long as possible.

Now that our country is too broke to take care of it's citizens, everyone is asking how we can afford another war?

Of course, we all know that the 1% will make money selling weapons to all sides and, if we win, they will enjoy another oil bonanza.

Forced in to budget sequestration yet, hey! let's just increase our military spending dramatically. All the right people make money!
