Senator John McCain (R-AZ) criticized President Barack Obamas plans for limited air strikes on Syria as cosmetic Friday, saying the failure of the United States to intervene in the countrys civil war was shameful.
In an interview with The Tonight Show host Jay Leno, the veteran and former presidential hopeful repeated his call for Washington to arm Syrias rebel Free Syrian Army in its fight against the regime of President Bashar Assad.
Asked by Leno what we he would do if here were president, McCain said: Id crater the runways, the six air fields that Bashar Assad uses. Id prevent him from using his air power. I would get the weapons to the people who are fighting and dying as we speak, and I would probably get a safe zone you could do that in one day and you would not put a single American in any danger because you could do it with standoff weapons.

That anyone gives any credibility to this man's opinions never fails to astound me. What has he ever done besides being born with a silver spoon in his mouth and crashing plains that makes him an expert on anything? Zilch.

(16,820 posts)more or less. His family has a long military history. I'm sure he was raised hearing a lot of talk about military campaigns and such; they probably didn't talk about much else besides war.
He knew he could have a political career because of his patriotic bona fides as a POW, and he's coasted along on that ever since. He thought the Presidency was owed to him, and he never got over losing, especially to Obama, for various reasons. He should have retired after he lost that election. At this point, he's more likely to make a fool of himself than anything else.

(13,069 posts)I certainly hope Obama remembers why he was originally elected: opposing the Iraq war.
If we wanted to let McCain dictate foreign policy we would have elected him.
