When adults have less sense than the kids...
I am livid. Last night, all across the midwest, high school boys and high school girls played football and cheered in a heat index that would have triggered extreme protective measures were they adults working. Here we had a high of 99 degrees and Dew Point of 71 degrees. That gives us a heat index a bit over 108 and the High School Association allowed games to be played. Kids were dropping like flies.
As a person who works closely with Industrial Hygienists, I am furious. If I had a crew working in PPE in that kind of heat, we would be timing how long they could work. It would be minutes at a time. OSHA mandates we take extra precautions. At those temperatures with gear on, they would be limited to minutes, yet we allowed high school boys and girls to go out there.
As a parent, I am furious. They literally risked our kids' lives last night to play a game that is supposed to be fun. Thank God no one had serious issues at the event I attended. However, there was a ton of heat stress.
Maybe this is Lounge Material but I think this shows the mentality of the adults in charge of our kids today.
