OK, let's say something has to be done about Syria

Does it have to be war? Is Syria entirely independent of the rest of the world. Does it manufacture all the hard goods it needs, does it grow enough food for all of its people, how about its water and energy supply? I ask these questions because if the answer to any or all of them is no then a war is simply unwarranted - a blockade will do nicely.

If you are one of the few Americans who can find Syria on a map take a look at what countries it boarders on. To the north (with its border running southwest to northeast) there is Turkey who could be persuaded to block its border. To the east (border running from northeast to southwest) there is Iraq, where we presumably hold some sway over their Government. Below the border with Iraq is a considerable border with Jordan and of course the border no one is supposed to mention, one with Israel. It seems like each of these bordering nations might be persuaded to blockade Syria.

But of course there is little profit to be made blockading and much to be made raining war down upon a relatively defenseless nation and of course those who are unable to sustain an effective blockade will claim that the things are ineffective, but that's only to cover up their own inability to do the work.

So how about it? If the cause is good it does not have to be poisoned by starting a war because as any thinking man and woman knows, wars are a problem not a solution.
