. . . . on September 16 to be precise, we reach the 5th anniversary of the crash of 2008.
And magic will happen.
Criminals - real, actual, honest-to-gawd crooks - will get away with the biggest theft in the entire history of the world.
That isn't hyperbole. It is literally true. Essentially, no one has been prosecuted for the crimes that caused the crash that brought down the entire world's economy and continues to plague us to this day. On September 16, just thirteen days hence, the statute of limitations on their crimes will run out.

(67,817 posts). . . . to the 1980s, I recall oh so clearly the savings and loan debacle. Lots of money was stolen then. In the wake of that practice run for today's most excellent theft thousands of banksters went . . . . to prison. You want a really terrific story of the people (the victims) getting their due in the aftermath of but one savings and loan crime, google up Old Court Savings and Loan to see what happened to Jefferey Levitt.
His case was one of thousands.
What a difference. Life, for some, is sooooo much easier today.

(27,247 posts)A few, like some directors of Midwest Federal S&L of Minneapolis, were convicted of fraud, but most of the penalties for the others were merely slaps on the wrist, like what happened with the Silverado gang.

But you're correct, most of them got "while collar" punishments, fines, and such.

Included in the above, are our elected officials.
Syria is gobbling up media shares...and this very important far reaching issue, as the OP noted, the "biggest theft in the entire history of the world" sits like a hair ball in the gut of this country.
Another one got away with it...
Truly depressing.

We live in a political world
Love dont have any place
Were living in times where men commit crimes
And crime dont have a face

He certainly however knows which side of the bread his puppet masters want buttered.

(15,480 posts)I took early retirement (at age 62) to care for my elderly Mom (which I did for the next 5 years until her death), believing that my savings & investment income were sufficient for a reasonably comfortable old age,i.e., goodies like a week at the shore and an annual trip abroad; contributions to environmental groups, ACLU, carefully vetted political candidates; memberships in museums; subscriptions to the local theater group and symphony. That all came to a crashing end in 2008-09.
I'm still far better off than many, and I appreciate that - but I worked DAMNED hard as a single Mom to put my kids through college, (sometimes 2 or 3 jobs at a time), going for decades without a vacation. I still managed to put aside and save part of my earnings; didn't inherit a dime; hoping I'd live long enough to retire and enjoy life, and I bitterly resent that fact that "somehow" my savings/investments disappeared into the One Percent Maw.

I have another thought to go with that- We're all screwn. This WILL happen again. And again. And again. Until they have our last penny.

(22,772 posts)This justice department is an embarrassing joke in regards to justice, but it served it's purpose in letting the crooks get away with their crimes. I'm feeling especially sick today. And embaressed that I fell for the hope and change BS.
