(28,136 posts)...finding out if any rebel group did this for obvious reasons.
Why not go through the U.N.?
Why is the USA judge, jury, and executioner?

(40,416 posts)Sheesh! What's it take? An anvil hitting one on the head?
And I am firmly against US intervention.
But nobody can credibly ask whether Assad is responsible for the whole damned mess.

(229 posts)No, Assad is not "responsible" for starting this Civil War. The West did that, on behalf of the Transnationals that want to Steal Their Stuff and Put in a Pipeline to undermine Putin's majority-control of the supply of Natural Gas to Europe. Clearly, Putin's hands aren't clean either.
Let's not get fooled again - like when they told us it was the Iranians, not the Iraqis, who gassed the Kurds. Or when they told us the USSR invaded Afghanistan first (nope, USA supported the Taliban first), or the Gulf of Tonkin "incident," or Remember the Maine, the Lusitania, etc, etc, etc. All Lies to Start Wars. None admitted until decades later.
None of the American-criminals who told the lies leading to the murder of millions EVER went to prison, either. And THAT is the primary reason why we have Zero Credibility to do anything about what is happening now - "our" (sic) war-criminals still walk-free.

(40,416 posts)That alone should put people against Assad.
Do not presume that I am for US intervention, because I am not.
But Assad has attacked his own citizens. Certainly you don't deny that!
So some intervention may be appropriate here. But I do not think that military intervention will work. Nor do I think you do.
So what will stop this madman from killing more of his people to maintain power? Or what can one do to get him to step down voluntarily to save his country? (The Egypt solution, which has happened twice if you hadn't noticed.)
What would you do if you were President?
It's a tough decision and I don't know if Barack Obama is up to it. He may be. We'll see, I am sure. But only history can judge that.
This is a very tough one. It doesn't rise to Cuban Missile Crisis level (which I remember very vividly) but make no mistake, it's important.

Know what they think of him and the Government.
Pretty funny, huh.

(62,325 posts)the Iraqi refugees who have explained why they chose Syria to flee to rather than Jordan. We of course abandoned those 'victims' we went to 'rescue' from Saddam. Funny how once they get what they want they forget all about the victims they claimed to care so much about.
The reasons for choosing Syria were because 'Syria was far more inviting than Jordan where Iraqi refugees were treated very poorly'.
Now those Iraqis are under attack from the 'rebels' and are forced to flee again.
Kurds, the largest minority in Syria make up 10% of the population, now being driven out of Syria by our allies, those wonderful 'rebels', also disagree with you.
Christians, allowed to live in peace under Assad, are begging the world to help them protect themselves from our allies, the 'rebels' who are attacking them and driving them too out of Syria. Ethnic cleansing on our side. How cool!

(229 posts)That is the "law and order" the West is backing - because the Wahhabists Love Working with Western Transnational Exploiters to Screw their people.
Actually, the percentage in favor of Sharia-Law (including the cold-blooded murder of "discovered" LGBTs, for those Putin-haters) will be much higher after the Ethnic Cleansing the USA-backed Terrorists are now carrying out is complete.

(229 posts)They joined "Western Intelligence" along with much of Hitler's "Intelligence" operations, ala Operation Paperclip, after WWII. The Brotherhood's slogan was, "Hitler on Earth, Allah in Heaven." Those are our "allies" in the region. The Secularists are "our" (sic) enemy, because they don't agree with giving away their natural resources to the Transnationals.
The Croats also fought with Hitler, and were backed by the West, along with the Fundamentalists, in Yugoslavian conflict, where the USA worked to Undermine UN Sanctions to supply arms to the "rebels" after breaking up the existing peace treaty to start the war, so that Western Transnationals could steal their "formerly public" resources.
I support "Individual Rights" and the reclaiming of the natural-resources by the people. If there was a "side" with those goals in mind, I might support it. There is not.
