wind-watch.org

does anybody know who owns/runs this site?

tried doing a whois on their web domain but of course its 'Registration Private' ...

they are in my area trying to stop a proposal to build 25-100 wind turbines and was curious as to where their funding comes from

It's getting cheaper, more efficient, and the insane number of lawsuits that are filed against wind power are going down in flames regularly. I'm excited about offshore wind and will be at the American Wind Energy Assoc conference next month in RI.

And for those who do not like it because it ruins the view, I'd ask would they rather have a coal fired plant or a nuke plant? We need energy and it can come from a few different places. I'm a fan of offshore wind energy and am working to ensure the safety of marine mammals and birds to mitigate their impact on these species.

I've seen lots of wind turbines and most of them look like shit.

Kentucky...

COAL is the only answer...

projects like these are needed to prove to people there are alternatives...

all I hear about on a daily basis around is here is people complaining that 'obamas trying to take our jobs and shut down the power plants' ... their employers have done a good job instilling fear in them... the clean air act was signed long before Obama took office..

I'm surprised a project would be economical there. Who's buying the power?

Kentucky does not have an RPS and I doubt the energy would be cheap enough for a utility to buy absent a legal obligation to do so. I'd also be surprised if the project were financeable

Here is NREL's map of US wind resources: http://rredc.nrel.gov/wind/pubs/atlas/maps/chap2/2-01m.html

You can see that Kentucky and the southeast in general is at the low end.

ive had that argument with someone who said they were 'ugly'..

I pointed out that the two coal plants beside our fair city are both in violation of the clean air act every quarter... but yet no complaints about that.. and frankly, you cant enjoy your beautiful view when your DEAD from the dirty air all around you.. theres a reason the ohio valley is in the top 10% of heart disease and cancer... :p

they just move on to other excuses... 'well uhhhh they use energy when they aren't turning so how does that help !?'.... :\

if you defeat that one, they try the 'but it kills birds! how is that environmental! see you aren't clean!'... again, a fraction.. its like 10 in 100,000 or something like that.. lol....

while I definitely hate to see even a few birds die.. again.. im pretty sure the birds would appreciate cleaner air more than not having to avoid an object :p

Where is the wind farm? Not all sites are good and not every town supports the idea.
