(2,419 posts)For asking a question "Do you think striking Syria will help in 2014 elections?"
I emailed Admins and warned that allowing BOG in Greatest Threads would give newcomers the impression that the level of intolerance in BOG applied to all of DU, but the idea was rejected.
Anyway, L0on (or anybody), how do you see the list of banned DUers from that group?
philly_bob
(2,419 posts)Never mind question. Found out how to find list of folks banned from BOG:

(16,646 posts)117 banned and counting. I can't even find any other group close. Many don't even get out of single digits. Heck, most don't have any at all.
I have a picture of a group of people with their fingers in their ears hollering "la la la la la...."

(16,646 posts)I don't really see it as a badge of honor or anything. Of course I don't see it as much of a punishment either. I had to kinda chuckle when they "threatened" me with banishment. I wasn't really looking for an argument, but they found one anyway. Heck, the truly funny part was that I was, and sorta still am, one of there "defenders" (more like explainers). In some ways it is just a more narrow version of DU. A place for people of a like mind to discuss things. The primary difference is that there, all discussion must only involve how "there are no discouraging words and the clouds are not cloudy all day". (I stole that from someone else's description by the by).
They've gone banish happy over there. They've even talked about streamlining the process. It might work better for them if they found a way to banish everyone, and then have a selection/nomination/admission process. They add huge disclaimers to some of their posts for those folks that stumble in through the Latest Threads path.

(32,723 posts)There was a thread on "Obamacare" and I said it was Bob Dole's old answer to "Hillarycare" and they described that as, "A cheap shot" and plonked me.

(16,646 posts)I was reading before logging in. I have that group "trashed" so I don't accidently go in there. But since I hadn't logged in, it was in the latest threads. I read it, logged in, wrote a long response, then realized where it was. So I stopped and changed the response prior to posting basically inviting them to "take it outside" if they wanted a response from other than the BOG. I specifically said that it wasn't possible to respond within the BOG. They didn't like that at all. I tried to stay reasonable, but DAYS afterwards someone kept responding, getting more hostile the whole time. I finally tried an "alert" which I was pretty sure wouldn't be met well. But I thought I'd give them a chance. I got banned. I asked the host who did banned me what the reason was, but they never responded to the PM so I just let it go.
I think the banning fest has been fairly recent. Dunno if they had alot of problems recently, or if they have new hosts. If their not careful though, it could turn into a purity test and it will be an eye for an eye until everyone is blind.

(8,377 posts)What kind of a horrible person would sell out his fellow citizens for $40,000 or some other figure in that range? I can't believe most of them would do that. For most of them, $40K is pocket change.
But as we see from Virginia Governor McDonald, there are lots of other ways to put money into their pockets, and that needn't be reported, just among us friends, you know.
And then there are people like DEMOCRAT Evan Bayh, whose wife sat on a bunch of boards of HC companies making over $1,000,000 a year while Bayh was voting on HS reform. All perfectly legal it seems.
And the way the campaign finance laws are rigged, you actually get to keep the money that you don't spend on your campaigns. In Bayh's case, he had a lovely parting gift of about $5M, all perfectly legal. You can't spend that as personal money, you understand. ut what you can do is put yourself, your wife, your kids, your dog and money on salary until the campaign organization has paid out the entire $5m to these "political consultants".
The price is a lot higher than it appears.

(26 posts)The arab states said they will pay 100 percent of our war. Saudi Arabia has already spent billions on the rebel cause in Syria. Why? Maybe they're scared of getting gassed. Maybe it was the discovery of natural gas in Syria. Maybe Assad didn't let them build oil pipelines.
There are many theories, but we sure did overlook many atrocities up to this point. It is hard to believe that 1000 deaths are the motivation after over 100000 have died and I'm not sure how destabilizing Syria with bombing and more innocent lives lost seems like a good idea to our administration. I was feeling pretty bad for the Syrian people, but thankfully, this crisis has been delayed or averted.
