I lived on the west coast, PST, so was generally 3 hours behind the east coast, but I was visiting my parents, who were MST...so when my 13 month old woke up at 6 am or so (MST) I got up...normally I'd go back to bed, but my child was unusually hyper. Plus my parents were up getting ready for work and making a lot of noise. So I stumbled out to the living room to turn on CNN. There wasn't anything interesting so I started flipping channels. Then I saw an image of the world trade center on fire (the first one hit) on some obscure channel (that was not a news channel). So I flipped back to CNN and they had just started coverage of the first tower that was hit. I flipped back and forth from CBS to NBC to CNN to ABC. And I watched the rest unfold.

It was really really unusual that I was up that early or that my child was up early or was hyper. She usually slept late and was the easiest toddler ever. If I hadn't been at my parents' I probably would've tried to get her back to bed, as it would've been 5 am that she woke me up. So it was a total fluke that I saw everything from beginning to end.

15. I have six hours of video from back when CNN used to be good

We were watching the morning news when the story broke. I immediately said "Oh, this is going to be big!" and slipped a tape into the VCR, set to slow speed, and just let it record all day. I occasionally switched over to NBC, but mostly left it on CNN. There is some pretty fascinating commentary as they tried to guess what was going on, then started speculating.

endless hours on every December 7th going over and over the attack of Pearl Harbor. There is a huge difference between wanting to remember those who died and using this day as an annual effort to stir up the fear among the masses in order to try to gain complacency in the MIC's efforts to perpetuate war (someplace, anyplace to maintain profits) and Government/Corporate/1%ers movement to-wards using "Homeland Security" money to suppress the little people.

The powers to be have been salivating to find a way to erode civil liberties, control the masses, and wrest permanent control over this country for years. 9-11 gave them the means to achieve their life long dreams under the guise of fighting "terrorists." If 9-11 had not happened I have no doubt they would have found another opportunity to achieve their goals.

I assure you that 12 years after Pearl Harbor (and only 7 after the end of WWII) that attack was still fresh in people's minds too. I wouldn't be surprised if they were even replaying news reels, or having large commemorative events. In time 9/11, like all major events, will fade from memory and daily life. 12 years is really not a lot of time to have passed in a historical context.

Pearl Harbor and 9-11 was that our Government did not make long term changes that eroded our civil liberties and Constitutional Rights. Yes, there were Japanese who were put in internment camps (which was very disgraceful). But you did not see warrant less wiretaps, Renditions, whistle blowers being persecuted while Corporate/1 %ers/Government criminals are not held accountable for their actions. Pearl Harbor does not even hold a candle to the long term consequences to the American people resulting from 9-11.

9-11 gave the powers to be the opportunity to do everything they have done under the guise of protecting the US from terrorists while at the same time diverting attention from the internal threats that have never been dealt with. The US might have gotten Bin Laden but make no mistake, he was successful. This country will never be the way is used to be. Just look at what is happening now. Instead of focusing on internal matters, they are trying to make Syria the main issue. Americans are just too easily distracted.

is that the efforts of the MIC, Corporations, 1%ers and Politicians are being channeled internally throughout the entire country - not just one race - everybody. Getting involved in external conflicts/issues is all about - profits for the MIC/Corporations, maintaining an environment of fear, and distracting the masses from remaining focused on what is going on within our own country and demanding change.

Just look that the mass media entertainment that is churned out - more and more reality shows which is the 21st Century equivalent of the masses going to the Colusseum to watch the gladiators. They want to dumb down the citizenry. Most people have the attention span of a gnat which allows those in power to remain in power.
