White House: Diplomatic Agreement On Syria ‘Will Take Some Time’

White House: Diplomatic Agreement On Syria ‘Will Take Some Time’

A proposal to place Syria's chemical weapons under international control for disarmament and disposal rather than a U.S. missile strike "will take some time" as both American and Russian experts work out the details, White House press secretary Jay Carney said Wednesday.

"I suspect this will take some time," he told reporters at a daily briefing, but stressed that the Obama administration was looking for "a demonstration of sincerity and a verifiable way to secure the weapons."

Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Switzerland Thursday to discuss a possible deal with Russia’s foreign minister. In his prime time speech to the nation Tuesday night, President Barack Obama underscored the fact that U.S. military action against Syria remains on the table, however. He also argued that the threat of force has led to the possibility of an effective diplomatic response.

I doubt Kerry would be going around saying this, if the WH wanted to
accuse Assad of "using the offer to buy time and stall indefinitely".
