Study: Wind farms killed 67 eagles in 5 yearsThe research represents one of the first tallies of eagle deaths attributed to the nation's growing wind energy industry, which has been a pillar of President Barack Obama's plans to reduce the pollution blamed for global warming. Wind power releases no air pollution.
But at a minimum, the scientists wrote, wind farms in 10 states have killed at least 85 eagles since 1997, with most deaths occurring between 2008 and 2012, as the industry was greatly expanding. Most deaths 79 were golden eagles that struck wind turbines. One of the eagles counted in the study was electrocuted by a power line.
The vice president of the American Bird Conservancy, Mike Parr, said the tally was "an alarming and concerning finding."
I'm assuming we'll soon see articles on how strip miners and frackers are preserving our cherished environment.

(146,324 posts)The eagle thing is just one of their strategies. Do the statistics on eagle deaths include comparisons with other causes for the death of eagles? Unlikely.
Even solar has its detractors who claim to be environmentalists. Large solar generation fields are universally and strongly opposed by some.
It's all part of the Luddite movement that really wants us to go back to the mid-19th century, technologically and to sharply reduce the population of the planet by some unnamed means. It just masquerades as environmentalism.
There are a few adherents to this philosophy on DU.

(14,255 posts)Perhaps we will all be treated to articles telling us how radiation makes eagles bigger and stronger and glow in the dark.
It would be nice to think that perhaps this crap was from people who have an interest in blade-less wind turbines - but yeah, ALEC and fracking and coal and nuclear is my assumption.
And all just to protect profits, screw the earth and its inhabitants.

So, at this rate, the collective toll from every wind turbine everywhere will catch up to that one incident of oil pollution in a thousand years.
