This isn't just about American lives. Wars are just as bad if its foreign people who have to die. Worse because it was entirely optional, and happened largely because some people at Foggy Bottom and Langley had an agenda to change regimes.

1) Syria is supposed to identify chemical weapons in a week. That has absolutely nothing to do with removing those weapons. Please try and keep up with actual news...

2) Removing chemical weapons, if it ever occurs, does not disarm a nation. How ridiculous. Which is the point the al Queda inspired rebels made opposing the settlement.

“This situation has no precedent,” said Amy E. Smithson, an expert on chemical weapons at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies. “They are cramming what would probably be five or six years’ worth of work into a period of several months, and they are undertaking this in an extremely difficult security environment due to the ongoing civil war.”

....

An immediate test of the viability of the accord will come within a week, when the Syrian government is to provide a “comprehensive listing” of its chemical arsenal. That list is to include the types and quantities of Syria’s poison gas, the chemical munitions it possesses, and the location of its storage, production and research sites.

....

It's interesting to watch those whipped into a frenzy over chemical weapons, when over 100,000 have been killed from conventional weapons, executions, and God knows what else. And millions (per UNHCR) displaced. Where's the outrage been for the past two and a half years?

I have a life. I don't sit at a computer waiting breathlessly for replies to my posts. Apparently others do.....

My answer is to stay out of Syria. We have no business trying to impose our will on the people of the Middle East -- or anyplace else either. Syrian chemical weapons pose no danger to the U.S. I am not terrified at the world despite attempts by various administrations, including this one, to make us afraid.

turn around and insist it was some sort brilliant ruse on the part of the president, and he'd never, ever have actually done such a thing.

I would be very glad to see Syria give up it's chemical weapons without the US entering the Syrian civil war. I suppose it's not surprising to see politicians and their fans all rushing to claim the credit, but it seems awfully silly to anyone not caught up in the celebrity game.

Since the threat of war turned out to be too much for Pooty-Poot. He figured he didn't want the US striking his client state after all and so pressured them to behave in a more civilized manner. At first he was going to be OK with Assad using chemical weapons.

Rebels. If the story was true some of the military was defecting and probably more was going to join the early ones, Assad was in a very bad position and needed to get a deal completed. Putin wants a pipeline across Syria and if the civil war does not stop the pipeline would be in danger. Time will tell on this, I still see the naysayers posting and time will cure this also. If we would get behind Obama great things could happen, the GOP could begin to sound great again and I know the Democrats would be great.

And while we're at it, when is the USA going to get rid of OUR stockpile of chemical WMDs? It is OK if I talk about that in the past tense too?

It is great that Obama got rid of chemical WMDs from both Syria and the USA without firing a shot. That was masterful.
