Feds arrest 45 illegal immigrants in Connecticut, Massachusetts

HARTFORD, Conn.—Federal immigration officials say they have arrested 44 illegal immigrants in Connecticut and southwestern Massachusetts who have previous criminal convictions, and another person who had outstanding arrest warrants.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency said Wednesday from Hartford that the arrests came during a four-day operation that ended Monday. Forty of the arrests were in Connecticut, and five in Massachusetts. ICE said 18 of the detainees had more than one criminal conviction and 24 had been convicted of felonies, including sexual assault and drug charges.

The people arrested included 38 men and seven women, ranging in age from 21 to 57. The largest number, 17, are from Jamaica. Five are from the Dominican Republic. Others are from other countries in the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
