. . . . a cancerous tumor. Being "better than that" accomplishes nothing, in my mind. So many people like to say that. Some take comfort from saying it. Some feel superior for having said it.
Given the chance, Andrew Brietbart would have pissed on your grave and the grave of your family members. He HATED you. And from that hate, he set out to destroy you and everything you love.
Moreover, he has followers. Many followers. People who thought of him as a political ally. Just today, Man on Dog said a lot more than just the usual, pro forma "kind" words. He said he will be a great loss in the fight to win back America. No word yet from the TeaBag ass licker, Dog on Car, but no doubt, after he praises the Blunt Amendment, he'll have some pandering statement of his deep sense of loss. Then, of course, there are the little people who are just as filled with hate as he is.
I can understand the "because we're better than that" sentiment in a lot of cases. This, however, is not one of them.
I'm glad he's dead.

(20,818 posts)Remember that that is what freepers and many other conservatives (certainly not all, but a lot) said about Ted Kennedy and the deaths of other prominent Dems and how angry it made us. There should be no joy in any death and we ARE supposed to be better than that. I am certainly no fan at all of Breitbart and I happen to believe he's now answering for a lot of his shit to a higher power right now, but I do not rejoice in his death and I feel sorry for his family. Especially given his fairly young age (shit, he's several years younger than me) and the way that it happened. Grave dancing is sick no matter who does it or why.

(20,818 posts)a huge lifelong Kennedy fan. I'm certainly not at all comparing Breitbart with Ted, not even on the same planet. What I'm saying is that I don't even think Kennedy would be rejoicing in this and he wouldn't want us to, either. What I'm saying is that we cannot complain about how rude and crass the other side is in their reactions to some Dem and lib deaths if we do the same damned thing. Grave dancing is grave dancing and it's sick. Period.

I cannot mourn the passing of someone so truthless, vicious, evil and hateful. There comes a point where you forfeit your own claim to humanity by your own actions and this SOB passed that point long ago.

(28,158 posts)Which doesn't mean I don't feel for his family. I do. Even though all I'm feeling is a sense of karmic justice in his death.
He was a vile, hate filled man who lived to bring suffering to others to further his goals. There are a lot of his victims out there with lighter hearts today.
Today is my birthday. I'm going out for margaritas and a nice dinner followed by a show. It's a long planned celebration with one change, I'll make a toast to a brighter tomorrow for Brietbart's potential future victims now spared their fates. I'm not celebrating his death. I am celebrating the end of his power over others lives. There is a difference.

(13,776 posts)There wouldn't even have been a question about how to respond to his death if he hadn't been such a horrible, horrible person. A debate about whether it's appropriate to be happy about someone's absence from the world isn't much of a legacy.
Happy birthday!

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,735 posts)I realize that he had a family and friends who are probably feeling very sad right now, and it is certainly appropriate (and normal) to feel empathy for anyone who is grieving. And no matter how much of a dick you are, chances are somebody, somewhere, loves you.
However, the result of the passing of Andrew Breitbart is that there is now just a little less malice in the universe. Those who are climbing up on their high horses and announcing that they are "better than that" - claiming they genuinely mourn the loss of someone whose whole purpose in life seemed to be political ratfucking of the most vicious sort - are they really being honest with us and themselves? Are they really, truly sorry he's dead? I suppose you could say it would have been better if he had lived long enough to see the light and repent of his evil ways, like Lee Atwater (of the "Willy Horton" ads). Atwater died of a brain tumor when he was only 40, and just before he died he wrote an article in which he apologized to Michael Dukakis for the "naked cruelty" of the his 1988 campaign strategy. Maybe Breitbart would eventually have repented as well, but how much more damage would he have done in the meantime? And some people never change; they remain wicked bastards until their last breath (e.g., Dick Cheney).
Those enlightened beings who find themselves able to mourn the deaths of extraordinarily bad people are probably "better than" I am -- but Breitbart was a very bad man and I'm not sorry he's gone.

The most horrible stuff I could come out with about that piss poor excuse for a human being would still leave me "better than that," bless his heart. He was a rage addict who destroyed other people for fun, bless his heart.
