Mitt Romney defends making fun of poncho-wearing NASCAR fans, says he wanted 'a garbage bag' too
by Jed Lewison
This is hilarious, from last night's O'Reilly Factor:
So Bill O'Reilly warns Mitt Romney that he shouldn't say things that could make him sound like a snob. For example, he shouldn't have poked fun at poncho-wearing NASCAR fans, teasing them about their "fancy raincoats" because they had "really sprung for the big bucks."
And Mitt Romney's response? To whine about how he gets attacked anytime he's "joking around and having fun." And then, he makes things worse by callling the ponchos "garbage bags." To top it all off, in that patronizing Romney voice of his, he says that he wishes that he'd been wearing one of them, because he was getting soaked.

This is hilarious, from last night's O'Reilly Factor:
O'REILLY: You know whenever you make a joke like you did at the NASCAR race and you said you saw some people in these cheap little rain coats and you go way to spend the big bucks. And you know you're always going to be portrayed as a rich guy who is out of touch with the folks, condescending to the folks. Am I correct? I mean that's the way you're going to be portrayed no matter what you do?
ROMNEY: Yes, you're probably right. I mean, the narrative that the - - that the Obama people want to push and that members of the mainstream media are very anxious to do for them is that anything I do, the joking around and having fun that somehow that fits their narrative.
O'REILLY: Yes, you're going to be a snob and this, that, and the other thing. So is it worth it for you even to say those things?
ROMNEY: Well you know, it's hard to imagine all the things they're going to try and turn into attacks. I mean, that -- that's the first time you've -- I've heard the one you've mentioned. Look I have worn a garbage bag for rain gear myself. And we're out there in the rain. And the rain was getting us soaked. I didn't -- I didn't have a rain coat myself. I would have liked one of those.

Romney's campaign manager should invest in some tape.

Has America ever elected a real doofus as President?

(36,418 posts)2. The inner-joke of this is on Romney: NASCAR doesn't race in the rain.
If there's steady rain, the race is canceled. If it's a passing shower, people in the stands at stock car races -- if they have any sense -- get up and try to get under a roof. Mittens apparently doesn't have enough sense to even do that.

as he's almost GUARANTEED to utter something staggeringly inappropriate and out-of-touch within 24 hours, as he's done it EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I should be a Vegas oddsmaker.
