And this is in spite of the altogether likelihood that he was in my sphere of six degrees of connection (as is the rest of humanity it seems), Breitbart was most definitely the kind of person that I would not have wanted to know personally.
I can only say about him some things that I have had the opportunity to observe:
He was a bitter, angry person who was at war against the world around him. I can't claim that he was a man who knew joy, except joy in the suffering of the people whom had he hated.
He always reveled in himself a vision of a man with something to prove. Unfortunately, the things that he tried to prove were routinely lies, distortions, accusations and condemnations. He bristled mightily at any resistance to his stances. A breathless self-defender, his rigid unwillingness to engage in civil discourse was legendary.
He was quite enamored with what ever wealth that he had accumulated. Not as a mark of generosity to heap upon his fellow man, but to heap suffering on those who only tried to help their fellow human beings. Breitbart seemed to be at war against compassion, caring, tolerance and charity. When he spoke of his money, as he was wont to do when issuing challenges to disputes of his lies, it was quite clear that his only concern was of himself and not of the other people whom he had unjustly smeared.
Always in his public language he was callous, cruel and sarcastic. He seemed like a man to whom a calm moment would be a malady. Rage was, quite possibly, his constant companion.
He was never a man who was satisfied at not being the center of attention. If he entered a room, he was loud and obnoxious. I'm sure that he recognized the people whom he despised and would make himself available for confrontation, in the knowledge that public events are replete with people armed with audio/video and that such confrontations would find their way into public viewing almost instantaneously.
In all honesty, I can't say that I've observed him as being a nice person. Perhaps he was in private, but given his obsessive desire for self-gratification in the suffering of others, I really doubt it.
Any person who is as constantly stressed as Andrew Breitbart appeared to be is not a healthy person. Dying at the age of 43 is practically an inevitable proof of this assertion. Had he lived to the age of 50, without any kind of intervention, it would be a miracle. Given the fact that he didn't look healthy at all, was speculated to have had a severe drinking problem and seemed to not to care at all, if any, about his own health, no one should be surprised in the least about an early death of natural causes.
In these times, people would usually say something like, "Rest in peace." But in this world, we leave our legacy behind us when we pass on. There's no way of knowing of what one would experience in the aftermath of their life. But, of only what is left to those of us who are still in the land of the living. In Andrew Breitbart's passing, I can't say that he had left any peace behind him
Especially, to his many victims.
However, the fact that he's no longer around to create more victims in service to his own whims can only be described as a good thing by myself.
I'm sure that many of you feel the same way.
So please join me in saying, so long, Andrew. We hope to not see the likes of you come our way again.

(37,540 posts)Had Breitbart been a progressive, he'd have been just another unremarkable name in a very long line. Carrying water for the 1%? That's where the money and opportunity lies. Hope it was worth it for him.

To be around that day in and day out does much damage to a child.
