Involving a woman they were using to smear the Occupy movement. The story goes like this: Conservative blogger https://twitter.com/#!/NadiaNaffe agreed to O'Keefe to make up claims of being raped at an Occupy event. O'Keefe picked her up, purchased alcohol, and took her back to his parents house to get prepped, and then when she changed her mind O'Keefe locked her in a barn on his parents property and threatened her, allegedly with another man present as well. She threatened to call police and before letting her out he offered her $$$ to stay silent about what happened and she was on the verge of exposing Breitbart and O'Keefe for making up false rape stories.

(6,161 posts)These are NEW allegations. When Breitbart yelled "Stop raping people!" he was setting himself up to be the person out front of these "news" stories. Which we know now were all fabricated.

(6,161 posts)They're not just making up news stories, they set themselves up to make themselves look like the beacons of truth before breaking news stories, to enhance their credibility. So they can point and say "I told you so, WE were on the forefront of this news story!". Yet, it was all a lie.

It's really too bad Nadia didn't go to the police instead of Twitter. That she didn't means it's a non scandal. However, Breitbart had manufactured outrage on less and that's probably why he was so unstable by the end.

(18,184 posts)It's much easier to accept reality and work from there.
The RW obsession with 'perception is reality' is starting to wear thin.
Newest Reality
(12,712 posts)be thankful that the RW reality creating kit is more obvious than it used to be.
Actuality is closer to what we are and what is. Reality is based on a the unavoidable generalizations, distortions and deletions that come with conceptualized thought and is often a matter of consensus.
Being trained to live in, and as, the "tool" we use to relate with and manipulate our surroundings is part of our disconnection with what is and all that ensues from it. However, that's the dilemma, yet stubbing your toe or getting wet in the rain hints at it.

(3,190 posts)And that's why this tactic used by TPTB, the RW, thr MSM, the CIA and so on are so effective...(create the reality). Hell, that's why advertisement and marketing are everywhere. It's really psychological manipulation.
For instance, it's a well known marketing practice that once an individual has seen an advertisement for a product or service in three or more different forms/venues/media, that product or service will sick in people's minds creating the individuals percetion that that product or service is better than others.
Pure psychological manipulation used thousands of times a day in a thousand different ways.
Make no mistake, folks like AB and O'Keefe were TRAINED by higher-ups in the RW how to use this type pf manipulation to create a perception of reality.

I think this story is going to get VERY interesting as more facts start coming out.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)But what's perhaps most interesting of all is the disparity in popular media coverage for the hoaxes perpetrated by Breitbart and O'Keefe versus the coverage when the hoax is revealed to be . . . a hoax. Or when the hoax never quite gets off the ground, as in this case, and the case of Mr. O'Keefe posing as a telephone repairman to get into Sen. Landrieu's office.

(17,266 posts)There is very little question, in the face of such an inconsistency, that there is a will behind all of this. That somehow what Brietbart and O'Keefe are doing is approved by those with the power and influence to 'guide' what stories make it to the public sphere should tell us something very, very crucial.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)I don't watch the talk shows all that much, but threads here at DU report on just about every time Breitbart appeared on one of the talk shows (and thanks to the folks who post about it, even in the face of the "Why do you watch that garbage" responses), and it's instructive that he never for a moment lost his credibility with producers at Fox (no surprise) or CNN or MSNBC. They'd have him on to offer his deathless pronouncements on the issues of the day, and he was treated as a credible observer instead of the partisan hack of a liar he was. O'Keefe apparently appears less often, but he is still accorded time on the cable shows to bring the sneaky little shit's perspective on things.

A conservative activist known for making undercover videos plotted to embarrass a CNN correspondent by recording a meeting on hidden cameras aboard a floating "palace of pleasure" and making sexually suggestive comments, e-mails and a planning document show.
James O'Keefe, best known for hitting the community organizing group ACORN with an undercover video sting, hoped to get CNN Investigative Correspondent Abbie Boudreau onto a boat filled with sexually explicit props and then record the session, those documents show.
The plan apparently was thwarted after Boudreau was warned minutes before it was supposed to happen.

(12,977 posts)It seems that some of the Anonymous people have been taking a particular interest in the Breitbart crew since discovering that they're now working with somebody who was formerly with HBGary -- the firm that Anonymous hacked a year ago.
The full story is far more complex than I can ever quite get my head around, but it involves allegations that the scandal involving Rep. Weiner was partly a Breitbart setup involving a fake schoolgirl. And a member of the same bunch who allegedly set up Weiner, Mike Stack, was the provocateur who burst into the Smithsonian last fall during an anti-war protest, causing the police to tear gas everyone in sight.
These things seem to be completely separate from anything James O'Keefe had been up to. It appears that Breitbart was sponsoring more different dirty tricksters than we've seen since the Watergate days -- only this time intended to smear and undermine the left, not just to win elections. I'll like to hope that his death will mean all of this crap will come out, rather than being swept under the rug.

For now, I'm holding my tongue.
