US drones begin to kill in Philippines

The U.S. launched a drone strike in the southern Philippines early this month that reportedly killed 15 members of Abu Sayyaf and the Jemaah Islamiyah groups, raising concerns about the legality of U.S. drones in the country.

The airstrike prompted angry reactions from some in the Philippines weary of U.S. breach of their sovereignty.

One Philippine representative, Luz Ilagan, called for repealing the U.S. Visiting Forces Agreement and an end to U.S. military intervention in national affairs.

Ilagan also called for a probe into what she referred to as the “extensive and intensive intrusion of the U.S. military in Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) operations.”

Can anyone provide a justification for the usage of drones to commit extra-judicial murder and violate the sovereignty of foreign countries from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, to the Philippines?

And that quaint old document doesn't need to be heeded anymore, because 9/11 changed everything, and we're so exceptionally exceptional, and you're just being alarmist and fear-mongering, and everybody killed in the missile strike was, like, totally going to wipe out the United States, and we executed them in the nick of time, and why aren't you waving your flag, and anyone who wasn't part of a group that nobody's ever heard of prior to today should have known better than to be hanging around with them so it's their own fault they got killed, and shut up.

That about cover the usual points?

Did Abu Sayyaf blow up the World Trade Center? Was the Jemaah Islamiyah group plotting attack on the US? (It probably is now.)

On what basis are we intervening in a rebellion half a planet away?

Forty years ago Philippinos had a very positive view of the US. Why do we do shit like this? Are we trying to create enemies where none exist?

I posted about our drones in the Philippines the other day - & zilch responses.

How much is all this costing - you know -- since we're all 'austere' & everything these days.

They could turn themselves in for trial

Just like suspects in the United States Who run from the police , some of them get shot when they refused to turn themselves in for a trial
